fotografr Posted July 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) This one is just two images stitched together. I don't miss having the X Pan, but imagine if Leica made one like it.
Advertisement Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Hi fotografr, Take a look here Here's My Village, Andy. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted July 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2006 This one is just two images stitched together. I don't miss having the X Pan, but imagine if Leica made one like it. I'm salivating and would sell the wife. Great shot that. This is what we would definitely call the "Urban Village" over here. Very exciting place by the looks of it. (I shall have to look "Madison" up in my "Boys Own Book of Places You Don't Quite Know The Location Of"... ) Got an Avenue, hasn't it?
andybarton Posted July 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2006 Wisconsin, eh. Nope! None the wiser Mid-west somewhere I think. A place where nothing ever happens?
andybarton Posted July 10, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2006 Hang on... There's now a hot line on which you can report a problem... http://www.cityofmadison.com/reportAProblem/dead_animal_collection.cfm Sorry to take the mickey. Wisconsin is seldom heard of over here, just like England doesn't get onto the news in the US very often. Good job we have this place to educate us, that's what I say! wda Posted July 10, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 10, 2006 A very striking picture and what a contrast to Andy's! David
jtharvie Posted July 10, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 10, 2006 Here is our claim to fame . . . the windiest and coldest city spot on earth . . . the middle of Portage Avenue and Main street. Winnipeg was once the third largest city in Canada (now around 8th) it is also the last example of the Chicago style of architecture (Chicago's was destroyed by the fire). In January it can be -40 C with a wind of up to 70 to 80 kmph . . . I don't know the exact wind chill but it is darn cold.
jmr Posted July 10, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Brent, next you'll be telling us that 100 years ago the sea used to come right up to the front desk. Nice photo(s).
stuny Posted July 10, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 10, 2006 Brent - Exquisite night/stitched shot, with most appealing colors and tack-sharp focus. Stuart
fotografr Posted July 11, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted July 11, 2006 "In January it can be -40 C with a wind of up to 70 to 80 kmph ." And you live there......why??? I thought Madison was cold in the winter, but it's nothing like that.
leicamann Posted July 11, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 11, 2006 The "other " Canadian name for Winnipeg..is Winterpeg..it is indeed like walking into a freezer box. One time walking only 2 blocks from a store in South Winnipeg , it took a pure hot water bath , 1hr of soaking, and 2 cups of scalding coffee to recover. Nice shots.. Thanks for sharing Cheers, JRM
dan_drabek Posted July 11, 2006 Share #11 Posted July 11, 2006 Wow--eye poping color Brent. Looks clean as a whistle. Nice stitch job. Love the wide angle perspective. DD
lambroving Posted July 11, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 11, 2006 Brent, Nice job! Is this for another book? What would you do if you did not have so many rich friends with fancy penthouses?!
fotografr Posted July 11, 2006 Author Share #13 Posted July 11, 2006 Thanks for all the nice comments. William--that's a pretty good guess, but in this case I was shooting the view from one of the penthouse condos in a new building so the developer can put it on the website to help sell it. This view is still available and can be yours for a mere $1.3 million.
