ChiILX1 Posted August 25, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted August 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Am I too OCD I've never scratched a screen before EVER - I am big time careful with my stuff- yet my X1 is scratched all over the LCD from the cleaning cloth. You can't see any scratches on it normally- but if you put yours in direct sunlight and you will see scratches if you don't have a protector. A screen shouldn't scratch form the supplied cleaning cloth!!!! Am I crazy? Â Also there is a tiny chip by my on switch in the metal I don't know what it's from. There is no way in hell it came within 10 feet of anything that could do that. As a grad student, the X1 is the most expensive item I've ever owned by atleast 1k (especially with the accessories) and I've never been more anal about anything. How could this happen? Is the X1's magnesium softer than the M9's Brass? Is the X1 screen not the same glass as an iPhone or crystal as the M8.2 / M9? Anyone else with a single scratch? Â I wrote Leica that the screen shouldn't scratch from the cloth and the scratches are so microscopic and so many that its the only thing it could be from. I've always worn glasses so I know. They said to send it in and if they replace the LCD cover for free I will be getting the Giotto's protector for sure. Â Oh yeah- and I've only had mine 1 month and taken 4500 images. Advertisement Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Hi ChiILX1, Take a look here How's everyone's X1 holding up?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sharookh Posted August 26, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted August 26, 2010 Camera fine - so far! Â Giotto LCD - Busted. Â Slight knock on the edge of the screen (placing the camera everso carefully over the shoulder of a chair) and ....crack, right across. I've still got it on, tho'. chrispatel Posted August 26, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted August 26, 2010 Just purchased mine last week and put my Giottos screen protector on about an hour ago, Hopefully it gives me some good protection. Â Chris
ezc203 Posted August 26, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted August 26, 2010 Been using my X1 since Feb and all is well. I think there's one scratch on the screen from a pretty brutal drop (knew I shouldn't have let my sister play with it, lesson learned) but other than that all is well. Â I now use a hard-cover screen protector and a Luigi case. I highly recommend both.
h00ligan Posted August 26, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted August 26, 2010 Mine's holding up fine except for an extremely minor small and shallow scratch from putting the addon grip in place, which I've lamented over previously. It's not something anyone would notice. I did add a screen protector recently, but had no scratches after a couple of months. Â I will add that when my x1 is not being used, it's obsessively in the softly lined '3 million dollar home'.
RichardM8 Posted August 26, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted August 26, 2010 Oh yeah- and I've only had mine 1 month and taken 4500 images. Â Wow... that's about 150 shots a day on average! Â Â I have mine about 2,5 months now and the image counter is around 1000. Â Polishing scratches can also be from particles in the cloth. One tiny grain of sand is enough. Mine is still scratch-free but if I put it in direct sunlight I'm sure I see something too. Inevitable if you use it imo. Â I'd like to see a picture of an X1 with a Giotto protector installed. I'm not too keen on adding things to the camera.

fotografr Posted August 26, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted August 26, 2010 I had some minor issues with the thumbwheel initially, but the problem has solved itself. After two months, my X1 is working out just as I had hoped.
Andrius J. Posted August 26, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted August 26, 2010 Despite misaligned skin and dead pixels in lcd of x1 out of the box, it is holding very well, except the charger which died after 6 chargers, but fortunately it was replaced quickly
tom0511 Posted August 26, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted August 26, 2010 I have used mine quite a bit and its 100% ok so far. I have a protection foil on the lcd though. I hope it was not a mistake to write this

To paraphrase- you are saying yes, I am too OCD  It is disappointing that the LCD cover isn't harder. 3 years with my iPhone and not one scratch on the screen and that thing goes in my pocket with keys. That's a screen.  Aparently the 8.2 has a sapphire LCD screen. That would do too.  But seeing that the Giotto's screen is $25 on B&H, and that it's glass (which won't scratch hardly ever), why was this not put on my $2000 camera? Why was cheap, soft plastic put on it? Julian Thompson Posted August 26, 2010 Share #17  Posted August 26, 2010 Mine is a bit battered now - no screen protector and I don't use a case. Also I try to take it with me a lot. The upside is I get some great shots that I'd miss if I was faffing with a case and the downside is that the camera gets a beating. Funnily enough, the less I bother to worry about it the more I connect with using it and start to get better shots - bracing the camera against rusty poles, the ground - whatever - things you can't do if you're in OCD mode
