How's everyone's X1 holding up?

Am I too OCD  I've never scratched a screen before EVER - I am big time careful with my stuff- yet my X1 is scratched all over the LCD from the cleaning cloth. You can't see any scratches on it normally- but if you put yours in direct sunlight and you will see scratches if you don't have a protector. A screen shouldn't scratch form the supplied cleaning cloth!!!! Am I crazy?

Also there is a tiny chip by my on switch in the metal I don't know what it's from. There is no way in hell it came within 10 feet of anything that could do that. As a grad student, the X1 is the most expensive item I've ever owned by atleast 1k (especially with the accessories) and I've never been more anal about anything. How could this happen? Is the X1's magnesium softer than the M9's Brass? Is the X1 screen not the same glass as an iPhone or crystal as the M8.2 / M9? Anyone else with a single scratch?

I wrote Leica that the screen shouldn't scratch from the cloth and the scratches are so microscopic and so many that its the only thing it could be from. I've always worn glasses so I know. They said to send it in and if they replace the LCD cover for free I will be getting the Giotto's protector for sure.

Oh yeah- and I've only had mine 1 month and taken 4500 images.

Been using my X1 since Feb and all is well. I think there's one scratch on the screen from a pretty brutal drop (knew I shouldn't have let my sister play with it, lesson learned) but other than that all is well.

I now use a hard-cover screen protector and a Luigi case. I highly recommend both.

Mine's holding up fine except for an extremely minor small and shallow scratch from putting the addon grip in place, which I've lamented over previously. It's not something anyone would notice. I did add a screen protector recently, but had no scratches after a couple of months.

I will add that when my x1 is not being used, it's obsessively in the softly lined '3 million dollar home'.

Wow... that's about 150 shots a day on average!

I have mine about 2,5 months now and the image counter is around 1000.

Polishing scratches can also be from particles in the cloth. One tiny grain of sand is enough. Mine is still scratch-free but if I put it in direct sunlight I'm sure I see something too. Inevitable if you use it imo.

I'd like to see a picture of an X1 with a Giotto protector installed. I'm not too keen on adding things to the camera.

To paraphrase- you are saying yes, I am too OCD :)

It is disappointing that the LCD cover isn't harder. 3 years with my iPhone and not one scratch on the screen and that thing goes in my pocket with keys. That's a screen.

Aparently the 8.2 has a sapphire LCD screen. That would do too.

But seeing that the Giotto's screen is $25 on B&H, and that it's glass (which won't scratch hardly ever), why was this not put on my $2000 camera? Why was cheap, soft plastic put on it?

Mine is a bit battered now - no screen protector and I don't use a case. Also I try to take it with me a lot. The upside is I get some great shots that I'd miss if I was faffing with a case and the downside is that the camera gets a beating. Funnily enough, the less I bother to worry about it the more I connect with using it and start to get better shots - bracing the camera against rusty poles, the ground - whatever - things you can't do if you're in OCD mode :D

Love your approach to it all :-)

because they wanted to sell a $2000 camera and not a $2025
