jsrockit Posted October 6, 2010 Share #41 Posted October 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) To me, it would be the 28mm Elmarit ASPH or the 35mm Summicron based on quality and size... though I love the 35mm Zeiss C-Biogon f/2.8 I use. Advertisement Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hi jsrockit, Take a look here Best all around Lens for the M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
usayit Posted October 7, 2010 Share #42 Posted October 7, 2010 It looks as though you have a reasonable choice of lenses for your camera. But if I had a choice of any lens for my M8, it would be the same lens that I used on my M8 for 99% of the time. The 35mm Summarit f:2.5. I second that.... 35mm Summarit is on mine quite a bit. It pairs off nicely with the 75mm Summarit as a good all around kit for the M8. I also have the Nokton 35mm f/1.2. Nice lens for the price but its size, weight, and longer focus throw make it a lens I don't carry very often. As much as I enjoy my Noctilux 50mm f/1, it stays home for the same reasons as the Nokton. I could go out with just the 50mm f/1 and really have some fun but I don't consider it an "all around" lens. I bet it would find more use on an M9... in my future. I am quite surprised that the MATE has been mentioned here... I sold mine to fund the M8. I do miss it... unfortunately. Megg Posted October 7, 2010 Share #43 Posted October 7, 2010 Just wondering why nobody mentioned CV 40/1.4 nokton? Although not many appreciate this less-known guy, it appeared working quite satisfactory on M8 if those who like traditional 50mm standard FOV. I heard focus shift issue, but perhaps same to Nokton 35/1.4. The 40/1.4 has pretty balance size on M8 in my opinion.
minubhatia453 Posted October 7, 2010 Share #44 Posted October 7, 2010 In my opinion 28mm Elmaritlens is the best option and rest you can check. but this is the good one. I am experienced with this.
Megg Posted October 8, 2010 Share #45 Posted October 8, 2010 Yes.. agree 28 Elmarit is one of best all rounded lens on M8. However, the pre-A seems slightly blocking VF unless you use APSH verison. But they are quite different lenses in image quality. So, I ended up using 35cron most of time.
Megg Posted October 8, 2010 Share #46 Posted October 8, 2010 It seems any versions 35cron serves the best all rounded lens in terms of size and FOV. It probably the best companion with M8...
graeme_hutton Posted October 8, 2010 Share #47 Posted October 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) 40mm Summicron if you can find one.
danyves Posted October 17, 2010 Share #48 Posted October 17, 2010 The 24mm 2.8 Elmarit. Perfect combination. Ken Same for me. Near perfection with an equivalent of a 32mm on a M9.
peterm1_Leica Posted October 17, 2010 Share #49 Posted October 17, 2010 It is interesting to hear you say that the Nokton is your favorite as I am just thinking about getting one for my M8. They look superb. The performance I mean. But I dont know if I could say its the best all round lens as I like to use different lenses for different purposes. My collection is not as large as yours, however.
cbretteville Posted October 21, 2010 Share #50 Posted October 21, 2010 28/2 pimped with the hood from a 35/1.4ASPH v1 would be my choice if I had to chose a single lens for the M8 (though happy I don't have to). Carl
khiromu Posted October 21, 2010 Share #51 Posted October 21, 2010 For outside shooting, I would pick 35mm Summilux ASPH. For outside, plenty of light, and when I want a small lens, I would take 28mm Color Skopar. For indoor, it would be 24mm LUX.

mbray Posted October 28, 2010 Share #53 Posted October 28, 2010 I have been a long time Canon 5D user, but switched about 6 months ago to an M8.2 with initially a 50mm Summicron which is great. I added a 35mm Summilux (an older one that worked and which has been serviced by Red Dot in London very well) and a Tele-Elmar 135. I have just spent a week in Turkey and took 1100 pictures, almost exclusively on the 35mm, much to my surprise. The angle of view and the maximum f1.4, added to the depth of field, often in poor lighting conditions were the key things for me. I even admitted to my wife that I could have managed with only one lens. She asked me to put that in writing. Martin
sbac Posted November 1, 2010 Share #54 Posted November 1, 2010 Hello, Another vote for the summicron 35mm asph. It took me a while to get used to it but I'm now taking 99% of my pictures with this lens. Very versatile and yields stunning enlargements. ramosa Posted November 2, 2010 Share #55 Posted November 2, 2010 if i have that many lenses, i would be lucky and confused. a favorite focal length is such a personal thing. for me, i love a 50mm, unless i'm in an urban environment with narrow streets (e.g., new york, europe), where i prefer a 28. i have never used a 35. (by the way, i use these on an M8.)
menos I M6 Posted November 3, 2010 Share #56 Posted November 3, 2010 Just back from a trip: Most used combo, good for almost all light, where the ISO2500 sensor is still enough: 35 Lux ASPH
drdannn Posted December 26, 2010 Share #57 Posted December 26, 2010 If I had to grab one, not having in mind what subject I was going to shoot, I would take the 35cron. Second choice , the 28 elmarit. I've been tempted to get the Zeiss 25mm or the Nokton 40mm 1.4 as additions to the arsenal. Any of you have thoughts on this???? carstenw Posted December 26, 2010 Share #58 Posted December 26, 2010 I'll throw my vote in with the 35 Lux ASPH I. I prefer the 50 Lux ASPH, but as long as I am on an M8, the 35 is closer to my preferred focal length, and I take a large proportion of all my shots with it. Great lens!
