bloomy20 Posted January 7, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The rangefinder system may not be the best out there for fast moving shots but here are 2 I took 1 hour ago with an M8 in melbourne. I personally think they are quite good. i am by no means a professional photographer by the way. They are small file jpegs only. For the cycling fans out there. It is Simon Gerrans-a local rider who has finished the past 2 tour de france races and happened to win this particular race.
Advertisement Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Hi bloomy20, Take a look here A couple of action shots with M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jmr Posted January 7, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 7, 2007 Michael, good, dynamic shots - welcome to the forum.
John Maio Posted January 7, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 7, 2007 Lots of color and action. I couldn't help but notice the Canon shooter in the background of number 2 with what appears to be the 70-200 f/2.8L "chimping" Wonder what his take looked like? abrewer Posted January 7, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 7, 2007 Hi Michael! Welcome to the Forum! Great action... Don't let anyone tell you that an M isn't a sports camera. I use mine for basketball, autoracing, equestrian...whatever I want. Just learn a little zone focusing and anticipate the action and you are in business. Thanks for sharing...keep posting! arminw Posted January 7, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 7, 2007 They are nice shots, but I'd like to know what lens and what Aperture you've used? Cheers

Actually, the rangefinder is very good for this kind of action shot because you can prefocus on an area, then wait for the subject to get to the point of focus. Viewing through a rangefinder can also allow you to see the subject coming into the frame lines so you have more time to hit the shutter at the right moment. stuny Posted January 7, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Michael - Welcome to the Forum, and based on these two photos, I look forward to seeing many more of your images. You've captured terrific action, and by shooting at the corners, the rides leaning into the turn add greatly to the action and tension.
bloomy20 Posted January 8, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted January 8, 2007 Hi Armin, i used a 50mm f2 summicron. The lens is non coded so i can't tell you the aperture exactly, but it was about 5.6 from memory with a shutter speed of 1/1000.
elansprint72 Posted January 8, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 8, 2007 Michael, Some of the world's best cycling shots have been shot with rangefinders! What you finish up with in the frame (whatever type of camera) is always something of a lottery due to the amount of stuff passing through your zone of focus, you just get (un)lucky sometimes, your second shot is a perfect example- if the first guy's backside had not been obscuring the tyre of the second fellow, you could have cropped and had a winner; so that's perhaps 1/1000 sec from perfection! Keep shooting! Cheers, Pete.
