Advertisement Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Hi Clandrel, Take a look here One dream lens for M9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Julian Thompson Posted August 19, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 19, 2010 My 50 Lux without question. But it's a personal thing - plenty of people will say their 21 or 35 too and I can fully understand that. I think it's a silly question (makes me just as silly for answering:D) because the M9 is a glorious system camera that can use many focal lengths but if you made me keep only one lens it'd be that 50 Lux for sure. When I got it I sold my 75 cron and my Noctilux because I stopped using them!
Clandrel Posted August 19, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted August 19, 2010 Yes, I thought this forum needed something silly for once:)
Printmaker Posted August 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 19, 2010 Tough question. Most days it would be the 35 LUX ASPH II but some days I'd want the 50 Lux ASPH. Trouble is, I love the way my 35 Summicron IV draws and how small a Leica is with that lens... just slips in a pocket or a bag and you hardly know its there, until you need it and then click, purr, its done its job. So maybe I already have my dream lens. Tom
horosu Posted August 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 19, 2010 Summilux 50 ASPH for me, too. Just perfect, especially on the M9 finder.
AlanJW Posted August 19, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 19, 2010 50 Summiliux, closely followed by 24 Summilux
shootinglulu Posted August 19, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) 28 Lux asph, as beautiful as my 50 lux asph, that would be perfect!

Double Negative Posted August 19, 2010 Share #10 Posted August 19, 2010 I'm (rather) partial to my Zeiss ZMs... But if I had to choose ONE lens, it would be a close match between the 1,4/50 or 1,4/35 Summiluxes most likely. The 0,95/50 Noctilux is of course a killer lens, but I wouldn't want that beast to be my only lens. On the M8, I'd have to say the 1,4/24 Summilux. Nicoleica Posted August 19, 2010 Share #11 Posted August 19, 2010 Whichever lens happens to be on my camera at the time! For with a lens you can dream of the images that you will make today, but without a lens you can only dream of what may have been.
Revdockj Posted August 19, 2010 Share #12 Posted August 19, 2010 35 cron version IV, also. Ken
Gilles L. Posted August 19, 2010 Share #13 Posted August 19, 2010 50mm Summilux-M ASPH: i thought it was good on my M8, but on the M9 it is better than ever.
tashley Posted August 19, 2010 Share #14 Posted August 19, 2010 50 lux. But it's a very very close contest with the new 35 M lux, which is a less good lens ( though still pretty good!) but a much more useful (for me) focal length on the M9.
cam2000 Posted August 19, 2010 Share #15 Posted August 19, 2010 I second Gilles L, with the Asph Summilux 50mm lens it is superb on the M9! I also agree with Nicole the wise lady that each lens are very uniquel according to the scene we wish to portray! I think in the long run you are the only one that can decide what is best for you! JWW Posted August 20, 2010 Share #16 Posted August 20, 2010 Another vote for the 35mm Summicron pre-asph IV. Although the new 35mm Summilux ASPH II is also great.
larryk34 Posted August 20, 2010 Share #17 Posted August 20, 2010 The last one I used . . . which happens to be the 50mm Lux (pre-asph). Before that it was the 35mm Lux Asph (first version), and then the 28mm cron asph. If I had to choose one for the M9 it would be the 50mm Lux. The M9 (as opposed to the M8) has convinced me that I'm still basically a normal lens photographer, still learning how to make the best use of the wider 35 and 28 lenses. On the M8 I quickly preferred the 35mm lens, but now I realize that it was because it was the only way to get back to a 50mm perspective. In other words, it's more about the bias or preferences or experience of the photographer than the lens.
Bo_Lorentzen Posted August 20, 2010 Share #18 Posted August 20, 2010 35 lux or cron though a 50 lux is a lovely thing as well.
