I fully respect Leica's decision of dropping R line, even though I was sad about it.

I do fully dislike Leica for sending out message about possible R "solutions" up till late 2009. If its just internet rumers than I apologize; however the latest promised if I remember, is release officially via Leica interview.

This thread is a brave a generous undertaking.

Although not a frequent poster on this forum, I both follow it and own and use Leica Ms including an M8 upgrade. I agree with several questions posed but wish to highlight a single issue.

My question is whether Leica will make available for the M9 the sapphire screen offered as part of the M8 upgrade program?

I was surprised and disappointed that it has not been offered, even as an a la carte option. I thought it was one of the most practical and useful benefits of the upgrade and is a reason I have not yet bought an M9. My original M8 screen rapidly became badly scratched by shirt buttons which diminished my enjoyment in its use.

David

photokina - Your Questions To Leica

Next month in Cologne the photokina will take place - again a great opportunity to get in contact with Leica and other manufacturers.

Together with Leica I'll organize a meeting (most probably on Saturday) with forum members and some Leica product managers to give you the chance to talk to Leica directly.

So - what are your questions to Leica?

For example regarding ...

- Current products, new gear and future developments

- Strategy and market estimations

- Technology, design and usability

- Marketing and communication

We'll sum up the results and present them here in the forum!

Would they, please!!!, tell us what exactly, if anything, they plan to do for the R-users, and give us a time-frame.

My questions to Leica:

Is it a chance at all, that there ever will be produced a kind of “mini S2” so called

full-frame DSLR camera system with lenses designed for a digital sensor?

If so, will it be possible to use old R-lenses on this camera body via an adapter?

(The promised R-solution !)

When can we expect a camera system like that will be on the market?

Hope for pleasant response !

:)

Leica have said they will not be producing such a camera.

Here are a few questions for Leica and the R solution.

What are your plans for the R solution, are you still moving forward?

If I may, why wasn't the opportunity and attention that Photokina affords to give an R solution update utilized?

Are you proceeding with an in-house design or from an outside source?

Will it be manufactured by a another firm?

Will it use a 'Hybrid M mount' that can use both legacy R and M lenses as well as a new AF lens line? A "bridge camera", that can afford you to stretch from the traditional M design paradigm into a new design that allows you to address a more 'modern' forward thinking idea separate from the M design constraints?

For example, will it be sealed and is Leica developing the finder technology itself?

Thank you, Mooky

I'm hoping this is not too late but I have a question regarding the S system.

How is the S system doing in general? Is Leica anywhere close to the self imposed target of 10 % MF market share already?

My gut feel is that the S system has become a drag halting the company's development in all other fronts.

Does Leica consider the S system self-sustainable?

What is the difference between giving info about a R-solution on september saturday 25th rather than tuesday 21st?

Today is the 22nd. The 21st lies in the past and the 25th in the future.

Also, this thread is about questions being collected to be asked in a Q&A session which was scheduled to be held on september, 25.

Hi

My question to Leica is, apart from the R solution, will they introduce a digital equivalent of the CL, such as Fuji have done with their X100, especially with interchangable lenses.

If Leica did this it probably would take sales from the M9 but they would still be selling Leicas to the many who can't afford a new M9, and there is no used full frame digital model that could be bought, and eventually traded up for a newer model as is the case with film M cameras.

regards

Bruno

David,

I had a very early M8 screen with its susceptibility even to swirl marks from cleaning with a micro-fibre cloth. I upgraded to a sapphire screen. The M9 screen, which I have had since the beginning of November last year and used constantly since, is still both scratch and swirl mark free. I think they must have used a better cover material, maybe polycarbonate rather than acrylic. The screen is also sharper than M8. I would not let that hold you back from buying the M9.

David, I can only recommend that if you desire an M9 that you should go for it and NOT let the prospect of scratching the LCD screen deter you. I have two M8's and one M9, the earliest from December 2006. None of them is scratched and have not been babied. They have traveled to Morocco, India, Antarctica and see regular daily use.

My only observation is that I avoid the use of neckstraps as the prime source of promoting 'accidents' and I do constantly use writ straps in concert with my StreetShooter (warning: self promotion). An alternative might be to cut off all your shirt buttons. ;):D

Love the MP, love the "normal" M9, love the S2.

In light of the new release titanium M9, does Leica have any other plans for car designers or other designers to modify camera designs and turn out ugly expensive products?

If so, please reconsider. Right now, people are loving the M9 as it is and there is a pent up demand for it. Even if the new ugly titanium M9 sells out to all the collectors with more money than sense, please don't take it as a sign that the rest of us want this sort of crap. You might find M9 demand drop off rapidly.

Ferarri is probably not going to be asking leica, or nikon or to design them a new car. Why did someone think the reverse was a good idea?

Most of the time, I don't need to shoot photos in a wind tunnel....

Out of interest Erl, what did break on your M9 that required it to go back to solms?

The base plate, top plate, RF alignment, 75mm lens aperture ring and hood + both my my knees and elbows (doctor, not Solms!). Your imagination can work it all out.
