dennersten Posted August 5, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have three screwmount cameras. After buying the small Voigtlander meter i really thinks it's fun again with these cameras. I guess it was to much hassle with the handheld meter. So my idea was to buy a 35mm. I have only 2 50mm lenses for screwmount so far. Could you please advice which to go for? Which should i avoid? Which is the best bang for the buck? Advertisement Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Hi dennersten, Take a look here Want to buy a 35 mm screwmount lens.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bill Posted August 5, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2010 You don't specify which Barnacks you have, but the original 3.5cm f3.5 Elmar is fun to use and the most compact interchangable 35 ever, IIRC. I have (a good) one and the performance is okay. Staying contemporary, I would recommend a Summaron, either the 2.8 which is excellent, or the 3.5 which is good. If you want to go modern, you cannot beat the CV 35mm f2.5 Pancake. Regards, Bill
wizard Posted August 5, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 5, 2010 I have three screwmount cameras. ...So my idea was to buy a 35mm. ...Could you please advice which to go for? ...Which is the best bang for the buck? Well, best bang for the buck will be, IMHO, the CV Color Skopar 2.5/35 (optics are the same as in the pancake mentioned above). A modern lens, very affordable and very good overall. The best 35mm screw mount lens will likely be the LTM edition of the Leica 2/35 asph. May be somewhat hard to find, and will definitely be much more expensive. Still a very good lens, even today, is the Summaron 2.8/35, but not too many were made in screw mount, so prices may be a bit on the high side. All in all, if photography is concerned, the CV is what I would suggest (if money is of importance. If not, go for my second suggestion). a.noctilux Posted August 5, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 5, 2010 For my screwmount Leica, I like the first one Summaron 3.5/3.5cm with rotating mount. It's very compact and light. The price, second hand, is low compared to the very scarse f:2.8 Summaron model. Quite nice from f:3.5 with small flare and excellent after f:4.5. Beautifull OOF also. LYCAN Posted August 5, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2010 Elmar 3.5/35mm Summaron 3.5/35mm Summaron 2,8/35mm Summicron (I) 2/35mm Summicron 2/35mm ASPH. Besides these Leitz/Leica lenses there are several other LTM lenses which you can use with your screwmount Leicas. Nikon and Canon (and others) made lenses with M39 mount for their own rangefinder cameras. The Canon 2/35mm (LTM) is a very good lens which I sometimes use with the IIIg or even with an adapter on an M body.
jc_braconi Posted August 5, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2010 Take in mind that you will need an external viewfinder also.
tobey bilek Posted August 5, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) 3.5 Summaron in screw mount is what i use along with 3.5 Elmar Red Scale,50 2.0 Summitar, 50 1.5 Summarit, 90 4.0, and 135 4.5. Added a 24 CV lens a few years back also. Have a 111c and 111F. Buy a bench winer, Leica Brass Cassettes, and Ablon Template and you are in business for home developed film. Forget this if you send film out.
Rusted Chrome Posted August 5, 2010 Share #8 Posted August 5, 2010 With my Leica III, I use a Canon Serinar 35mm 2.5 with viewfinder. It's an excellent lens and the price in good.
Artorius Posted August 7, 2010 Share #9 Posted August 7, 2010 I like the 35mm f/3.5 Summaron LTM(even more than my 35 Cron v1). It gets a lot of use on all my Leicas IIIc, M3s, and the M8. I really like how compact it is. You won't go wrong with the any of CV ones either.
Robert Hooper Posted August 7, 2010 Share #10 Posted August 7, 2010 The very small Summaron 35mm f3.5 is a real gem and performs well even by today's standards. At f5.6 it is exceptional. Contrast and tonal range are outstanding for black and white or color photography. All this is particularly amazing, considering this lens came out in 1948! dennersten Posted August 10, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted August 10, 2010 Thanks a lot guys! Sorry for late reply. It seems like i am getting myself a Summaron 35/3.5 and a SBLOO asap. It will be a lot of fun! And i think that will extend my time with my screwmount cameras. It will be more of a point and shoot camera. 50 mm is always some more fiddling of course. dkCambridgeshire Posted August 10, 2010 Share #12 Posted August 10, 2010 The Russian 35mm Jupiter lens is a good performer too and could well be the 'bestest' bang for buck. dunk
samiba Posted August 11, 2010 Share #13 Posted August 11, 2010 Amongst others (cron 35, CV 35) I use a Nikon Nikkor 2,5 / 35 LTM black barrel. Very very small und extremely good! Regards, Michael

dcoombs Posted August 12, 2010 Share #15 Posted August 12, 2010 Here is a thread from a couple of years ago on 35mm screw mounts. Much talk about the Summaron 3.5, and the last post is of an example I posted using that lens. The lens has a nice quality to it. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-collectors-historica/29670-35mm-lens.html Doug
samiba Posted August 12, 2010 Share #16 Posted August 12, 2010 Doug your sample pic is excellent. The summaron lens is capable of producing high quality pics in many situations and under varying circumstances. I also have the summaron 3,5/35 and it performs the same way. I will now have it cleaned, because it has a slight case of fogging and I want to stop that from maybe getting worse in a couple of years time, although I at the moment see no negative effects on pics beeing taken with it. BTW Lenn (liesevolvo) is a good friend of mine and he gave me a lot of valuable information on Canon Serenar and Nikkor lenses with LTM. That´s why I also started to buy and use them. samiba Posted August 14, 2010 Share #19 Posted August 14, 2010 Looks cool. Do you have some sample pictures taken with it? Hi Hakan, here I have the direct comparison between the Nikkor and the Summicron, taken at Easter in Leiden NL. The Cron is from 1957 and the Nikkor from approx. 1956. First pic is Cron, second is Nikkor. Regards, Michael Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Perceval Posted August 16, 2010 Share #20 Posted August 16, 2010 I have just obtained a Canon 35mm f2.8 dating from around 1953. Very compact, but with a solid feel. Excellent sharpness, with slightly lower contrast than one sees with modern lenses; ideal for black-and-white.
