ananda Posted August 19, 2013 Share #41 Posted August 19, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Overall excellent you say but then you pan the lens as one of the worst in the Leica lineup. OK, why do you keep the little bugger if you do not like it?
Advertisement Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Hi ananda, Take a look here Leica 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH thoughts?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
CaptZoom Posted August 20, 2013 Share #42 Posted August 20, 2013 Overall excellent you say but then you pan the lens as one of the worst in the Leica lineup. OK, why do you keep the little bugger if you do not like it? I think what he intended to say was that for a newer design lens and with firmware correction there should not be any color problems around the edges of the frame. And for the current production lenses that exhibit this behavior, the little Elmarit is the worst offender. I do not think he intended to say that the lens is the worst one Leica produces or that it isn't a valuable lens to have in your kit. I own the lens. I like. And he's right about the color shifts around the edges of the frame. Despite that problem (which is more exaggerated than actually is the case), I would not part with the lens.
mark_pw Posted October 28, 2015 Share #43 Posted October 28, 2015 You may find some nice street photos taken by the Leica Elmarit-M 28mm (I'm not sure which model or generation ) at bigbiglens.com - Leica.
Franek_ Posted October 28, 2015 Share #44 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) A friend of mine uses this lens almost exclusively (sometimes he uses also 35/1.4), You can take a look here: http://www.mariuszjaniszewski.pl/ 28/2.8 is great lens especially for modern look b&w - very high contrast, great sharpness, great dimensions of the lens itself (pre-asph versions are bigger, but definitelly not too big for comfortable use). sdk Posted October 28, 2015 Share #45 Posted October 28, 2015 The 28mm/2.8 does show strong color corner casts on my M9-P, easily correctable with Lightroom DNG Flat Field plugin and reference photos of white (I use a credit card size piece of white plexiglas for my interleaved correction images). On M8 the 28mm's color issues issues won't be as bad due to the narrower view of the sensor, nor is it a problem on my newer M-P Typ 240 camera. Keith (M) Posted October 29, 2015 Share #46 Posted October 29, 2015 Can't say I have noticed any problem areas at all when using this little jewel of a lens. It and the M240 have given me some pleasing results. IMHO, of course!
Mornnb Posted October 30, 2015 Share #47 Posted October 30, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) The M240 handles rangefinder lenses better than the M9, it's sensor is more tolerant of extreme ray angles. And the Elmarit works perfectly on it.
vladik Posted December 7, 2015 Share #48 Posted December 7, 2015 After owning this lens and not using it I’ve decided to sell it, but then I used it on my recent trip to Tasmania and I ‘discover’ it. Vey pleased with results, it is not for sale any more. (using it on M 240)
asiafish Posted December 7, 2015 Share #49 Posted December 7, 2015 This lens is one of my favorites on the M Monochrom, but I also like on the M9 (M-E). Corner color cast is really not that bad in most uses, and is often unnoticeable.
sdk Posted December 14, 2015 Share #50 Posted December 14, 2015 It really depends on the subject. A scene full of snow or even concrete will show the corner color cast problem easily, while a woodsy landscape might obscure it almost completely. tobey bilek Posted December 14, 2015 Share #51 Posted December 14, 2015 I have not noticed any colored corners on the M9. I leave the uv/ir filter on it and have the camera set to compensate. 24 3.8 28 2.8 ASPH 35 2.0 are all in my bag and all are wonderful lenses. Cameras are M8 and M9
