dutchman Posted July 21, 2010 Share #21 Posted July 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for sharing this picture:) if focus was meant to be on the fabric on the right side of Giulia then it's a nice picture. If however Giulia's face was meant to be sharp there could be an focussing (RF alignment) problem imho
Advertisement Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hi dutchman, Take a look here M9 @ 2000 iso. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 21, 2010 Share #22 Posted July 21, 2010 Yes, you are, sorry: the arm colour shift is probably due to the multiple light temperatures evident in the shot, and I don't know what's wrong with your display, but obviously there is a problem there; the EIZO here doesn't show any visible noise whatsoever. The shot is certainly as good from a technical perspective as my D3 at the same ISO and with the same low, and not-very-high-quality light sources Must be the Apple display, my Eizo shows the same as yours does. lct Posted July 21, 2010 Share #23 Posted July 21, 2010 This is not the Photo forum here and apologies to the OP for my word "ugly" but it expresses pretty well what i think of the camera's merits if this picture is representative of its abilities as suggested by some of the posts above (to my surprise i must say). Comes perhaps from the raw converter though. When the M9 was launched i spent a lot of time to develop some raw files with my good old C1 v4. Reds and magentas were out my a wide margin but it was not too difficult to adjust then and i found that the digital noise was not that bad at 2000 iso. Not on par with modern cameras but quite acceptable to be honest. FWIW.
250swb Posted July 22, 2010 Share #24 Posted July 22, 2010 LCT has an image that earned a place in the Forum Book. Is that good enough for you? As to his comment on the original image, since when has "exuberance" excused mediocrity? Regards, Bill The photo with the 'ugly colour' is an illustration, a discovery, an unexpected bonus. It may need working on, it may have multiple lighting casts that need sorting out, but so what, it doesn't need to be a contender for the Pulitzer Prize does it? Now I haven't seen the book, but I hope it isn't based on the usual camera club rules that exhibit their own mediocrity, but you'd sometimes think on this forum that Robert Capa's soldier would be critiqued purely on not being sharp. So if you or lct can't simply get the point of the image without reverting to calling it mediocre then there's good reason to question your judgement. AlainLandry Posted July 22, 2010 Share #25 Posted July 22, 2010 I'm so glad that the only shooting in this forum is with cameras! Well said Nicole Cesare welcome to the Leica Forum and I am very happy to see how the M9 perform on high ISO. Well done!!! Alain
gwelland Posted July 25, 2010 Share #26 Posted July 25, 2010 Cesare, I always considered anything above ISO 1250 unusable with the M8 unless I converted to B&W. Your shot is a good illustration in my view of the better high ISO performance of the M9 and given the conditions is a very presentable and usable shot, not something that you could have produced easily with the M8. The overall noise is noticeable by it's absence at this size and only pixel peeping will show it up. As mentioned earlier, print this and the noise will be irrelevant. Sure the WB is a bit off IMHO but, really, who cares if you like the picture and if it's of a subject near and dear to your heart. Enjoy the new camera! It grows on you more and more ...
