Here's another concert shot of Oscar Peterson on tour at the age of 81 in the Royal Albert Hall in London on June 29th. I was in the front row of the circle (very top circle) to the right of stage. Shot with R9/DMR 28-70 ROM (worried about whether I could hide a bigger lens) set at ASA 400 -2EV. Enjoyed the concert, but I feel that Oscar has aged visibly since his last concert a year ago in the UK (which i went to too).

Thanks for looking,

Charlie

Must have been an amazing experience. His "Hymn to Freedom" must be one of the worlds best tunes.

It would have been nice if you could have photographed from another angel. It does tell a lot about the concert but is not as artistic as one could wish for. And also changing stage light in colors and temperature is tricky for a digital camera (or any camera) to handle.

I visited Oscar Peterson's homepage some time ago and it seemed as he himself was maintaining it. I don't know if that is the case still, but it's interesting to see the page "@ Home" where she tells about his equipment - and that he also has a lot of cameras and a darkroom. He seem to be photographing a lot.

It's at http://www.oscarpeterson.com/op/index.html

Charlie, love the angle and composition.

I do a lot of stage photo (With D2X so can't show) and original angles and points of view are not always easy to find.

Nice work; it could use a bit of Noise Ninja.

Cheers.

Nice shot.

I'd be interested to learn how you managed to smuggle even THAT kit into the Albert Hall, and use it without being spotted.

Most venues are very sniffy about photography with anything but a mobile phone these days.

Must be unforgettable experience. In thte photography section, I'd like to see more space in front of musicians and less space from the back. I understand, that there is not much freedom of choosing shooting angle, but this composition doesn't work for me.

I like the angle of view of your shot very much!

Sorry, but the technical quality ist very poor. I think the DMR is an outdoor-sunshine-camera... :o

I take a lot of live-pics for Musikexpress, Rolling Stone, Metal Hammer (Germany) and other clients but I use Nikon-Equipment (D2X, D200, D70).

Not true, and lot of us have the pictures to prove it. :) The DMR however is a RAW machine, a 400 ISO RAW image processed in C1 shows little to no noise at all. There is no EXIF info with this image, so I cannot tell whether this was actually shot with a DMR. If it was, it was either not shot in RAW, or if shot in RAW it was shot at a much higher ISO than 400, or your RAW converter is doing a poor job. I originally asked whether this image was shot in JPEG simply because it does not look like this was from a 400 ISO RAW image processed with a good RAW converter. I have shot images at 1600 ISO converted in C1 that have much better (technical) quality than this posted sample. Just to be clear, I am not referring to image content.

Thanks for your comments. I converted this from RAW to jpeg so that i can upload it onto the site. I would loved to have had a photographer's pass and shot from the front of stage, but my GBP 50 ticket didn't give me any other option. I would loved to have had a 280 or 300 and a monopod, but I don't think security would have bought that.

I need to learn more about RAW processing and this will get better with time.

I was at the concert in Paris last weekend. It was just amazing!!!! The audiances were all standing up applauding the legendary jazz player who apparently had a difficult time walking to the piano. Such a touching moment.
