stephen.w Posted July 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Many of the X1's oft-discussed shortcomings can be fixed or ameliorated with a firmware update. Leica have already introduced at least one firmware update for the M9, so why are they taking so long to release one for the X1? Any thoughts? leffe Posted July 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2010 Hey Stephen, absolutely agreed. The long time this takes will hopefully bring us huge improvements and soon, too!

jsrockit Posted July 7, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 7, 2010 What happens when the firmware update comes out and the AF is still the same speed and the MF scale is still the same?
RichardM8 Posted July 7, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 7, 2010 Count on it that will be the case...
Jelico Posted July 7, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 7, 2010 Do you think that Leica could provide with new firmware option where one can see zone of focus for selected aperture in manual focusing mode. Right above the distance scale ?

Right above the distance scale ? If they can do this and let it save the focus point you chose after you turn off the camera... people would be very happy. I'm not holding my breath though. Jelico Posted July 7, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 7, 2010 That too, ....I am sure that this feature would be easy to introduce, and it would be a great help.

FWIW, Ricoh managed to speed up the AF on it's large sensor compact camera with a firmware update.

Leica have already introduced at least one firmware update for the M9, so why are they taking so long to release one for the X1? Any thoughts? Why is it taking so long? Probably because leica is a small company that has limited amounts of (cash) on hand to just go out and hire (more) software engineers to make (minor updates and improvements) on an already excellent camera. Sure , I too am waiting, but you should already know by now and reading through all threads concerning FW for (ANY) Leica product....it always takes a while...... Be patient, there are several thousand of us waiting for it. cm
