Folks,

I am looking for a used M8.2. Suggestions where I can find an affordable M8.2? Sure I see a few in the classified but I am looking for something in the US.

I'm sure there will be a flood of M8 and M8.2s coming to market with those who can afford the new M9.

Try the regular used dealers. To name a few: Tamarkin, KEH, Classic Connection, Camera West, Kurland, Popflash, and Dale. Not sure what you mean by affordable, but their prices will be fair.

I found mine (M8u) through craigslist and made a new photographer friend in the process. It's a pretty safe way to buy ... just make sure you do a local deal and meet in a crowded place. We met at a local coffee shop. Bring your own SD card and laptop; and tell the seller that you'd like to try it out (take a few photos, download them on the computer and look them over to see if everything looks OK.) Beware of people just showing up with just a camera body (i.e. no way to test it properly). Be also weary of people who have no cables, chargers, boxes, etc. It might be a stolen camera.

In my case, the seller had original receipt, boxes, all accessories, etc.

Be careful and good luck,

Alberto

PS I love my M8u.

Thank you John. I'm talking to the same dealers and it looks like I'm going down the right path.

I got my 8.2 from Ebay a couple of months back and was exactly as described by the seller. My sole criterion on whether to buy from a seller is based on their feedback. Maybe I've been lucky so far, but I've yet to have a bad Ebay buying experience.

Good luck!

There are three for sale through the Buy and Sell section here, plus an upgraded M8.

In a choice of colour.

OK, they are not in the US, but I am sure that shipping could be arranged and you might find that prices in Euro are to your advantage at the moment.

Having something shipped 3,000 miles from California to New York seems to be pretty much the same to me as having something shipped 3,000 miles from Germany to New York ;)

If I can include myself here too Id like to ask if its possible to have the viewfinder modified to just show the 35,50,and 90mm frames,is it a case of just blocking out some of the holes on a screen or is it more complicated than that?..........................or impossible,or impossibly expensive?thanks.

Probably not. Thing is, for the M8 the framelines are not the same as for the other M cameras, due the crop-factor of the sensor - the framelines are calculated to show the same frame as the sensor would record with a lens of a give focal length. Thus, while it may be possible to just put the same frameline mask of an à-la-carte M7 or MP into an M9, to do this for the M8 they would have to manufacture a completely new frameline mask - I doub't they'd do that, even if you asked nicely. :-)

Of course you could try doing it yourself by taping the 24, 28 and 75mm framelins on the mask, but you'd have to have quite a lot of expertise with dis- and reassembling M8's do that, I believe ...

Thanks efix, this is probably for most a small thing...because it is a small thing....but I find I use my m4-2 body much more because of its fuss free frame lines, relagating a m6 to be an exposure meter.Ive never dared open up the m6 and to be honest it hadnt occured to me before that the frame lines could be changed ,but having arrived at the thought it seemed like a good one.

Of course, if you ever decide to use another focal length on your camera, you will have lost the framelines. I would not see this as a DIY thing, however. Maybe one of the well-known Leica technicians would be willing to undertake the job.

Thanks for the advice jaapv, thats a good point but Ive bought and sold both a 28mm and a 90mm after not enjoying the field of view, obviously wish Id kept the 28 though .

I also, am about to make the move upward to an M8. Reluctant up until now, but after using a Lumix for a time for those situations where I must, it is something that I no longer can put off.

I normally have relied without any problems, the M4 which I still know will serve me for many more years to come.

Did you find a camera?

I purchased a demo M8.2 last week, found a lot out there M8 and M8.2.

Most without warranty or a dealer's own 30/90 day coverage.

I decided to go M8.2 with 2yr USA warranty and a used lens.

I am glad I decided to go Leica M, I like the image quality and find a different "feel" to the colors and brillance of the images.

Was wondering if you decided on a camera?
