Albert Andersen Posted June 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi. On my brand new M9 I have observed some dark cirkular dots as shown in the enclosed crop. Is is dust? Welcome, dear visitor! yanidel Posted June 10, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2010 or it could be the shutter oil spills. Apparently, it happens to all M9 in their early life. No big deal.
jaapv Posted June 10, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 10, 2010 Dust I would say. Give it a blow with Rocket Blower, or vacuum with the Green Clean vacuum cleaner. ( for sensors! ) Only wet-clean if needed.

Doc_P Posted June 10, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 10, 2010 It's not a bug, it's a (well known) feature: a rocket blower will help... I had the same problem, found the answers i a forum (forgot, which one...) Enjoy the camera and have fun (after the cleaning) Best regards Axel
Jeff S Posted June 11, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 11, 2010 In the meantime, you can eliminate the spots you already have using various PP software...Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. Easy to do. Jeff
Guest mc_k Posted June 11, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 11, 2010 how does one tell dust spots from oil spots?
jaapv Posted June 11, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 11, 2010 If they shift or disappear with blowing or vacuuming they are dust, if they don't they are sticky and are oil or pollen and can be removed by a wet clean. If you really want to know what they are you can study them through a sensor loupe or better still a microscope.
ahl Posted June 12, 2010 Share #12 Posted June 12, 2010 Hi Albert, They look exactly like the oil spots on the sensors in my new M8s years ago. There were many threads on the best way to clean them at the time. I used Eclipse 2 and a Visible Dust Sensor loop. Very easy to do once I plucked up the courage and they never recurred. I only found them after reading the forum as I usually use my lenses nearly wide open. Just make sure your battery is well charged. Alan

250swb Posted June 13, 2010 Share #15 Posted June 13, 2010 Thank you for all comments. I will wisit Solms very soon, and they have promissed to fix the problem. I do not dare to try myself.Albert:) You will find it is a recurring problem by the very nature of digital photography and an interchangable lens camera. So unless you go to Solms often its worth making the effort to do it yourself. Steve
Bill W Posted June 15, 2010 Share #16 Posted June 15, 2010 My M8 was notorious for throwing off oil regularly. I just lived with it till I sold the old jalopy. My M9 so far has not had that same issue.
rob_w Posted June 15, 2010 Share #17 Posted June 15, 2010 Had the same issue with my M8 a few months into usage. Once wet cleaned, the problem never recurred. My M9 is just entering the 'danger period' but so far, apart from a few dust spots, there is nothing to see. Cheers Robert =======
