The Lightroom 3 thread [including "Does my free SN work with LR3?"] [Merged]

Downloaded and installed Lightroom 3 without a problem.

I purchased my M9 in December, 2009 and didn't activate the Lightroom download as I already had LR v2.7.

Following advice above, accessed the Leica Owner's area (on RHS of Home page) and after completing registration data given the option to download Lightroom, selecting version 3 for Mac.

By the time I'd packed my TAN number back in the box, I'd received an email from Leica with the Adobe License Number.

On opening, LR3 provides the option to submit License Number which worked perfectly. All done.

Hope that helps. :)

Exactly the same for me; had registered the camera but not used the TAN, and I got LR3.

A couple of observations: The dmg file you get by dl´ing from the Leica page is identical to the one you get from Adobe directly, so if you have it (or have a trial install), don´t bother. The serial number in the mail is all you need.

And, even though I selected the English version, I got that pesky "Swedish translation" (laughably lousy) :mad:

However, easily fixed by quitting LR and removing the sv.lproj folder from the Resources within the package. But why should this be necessary, since they take the trouble to ask?

Same here. I've been using LR2, which I bought long before the M9, so there was no need to use the TAN for it. More recently, I used the LR3 trial until it expired.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you there?

If you obtained a serial number by filling in the boxes you have used your TAN, even if you did not download the software.

The actual software download is incidental to the licence number. It is always available for download but you either get the trial or a full licence as with any other retail customer..

You now have a Lightroom 3 licence and your original Lightroom 2 licence (which was and is always upgradeable for a fee). It has nothing to do with what you got via your Leica Camera entitlement.

I only need to use the license no sent through e-mail (after filling in the TAN) for the trial LR3 to be activated. No need to download from leica. I guess the copy from leica is the exact same trial one you can download from Adobe.

Hi Geoff, sorry that I wasn't clear. You're right, the download is always available. I've:

- bought LR1 (way back);

- bought upgrade to LR2 (when it first became available);

- used LR3 trial for 30 days (recently);

- used M9 TAN to upgrade to LR3 (yesterday).

My point was just that I didn't want to use the TAN until the LR3 license became available via Leica.

I must have done something wrong.

I went to the Leica site, entered the TAN and got something for LR2-Mac. This number won't activate the LR3 copy I downloaded from Adobe.

Is Leica not ready yet?

I sent an email off to Leica. What a pain.

Bill did you previously download Lightroom 2 and get a serial number by providing your camera serial number and your TAN code?

Mine was the PC version but others have reported getting the Mac versions already, I think.

I had got a serial number for LR2 but never downloaded. It looks like I am stuck with paying for upgrade. I just tried re-entering my TAN number but this still lead me to LR 2.6.1.

If Leica have given you a SN for v2, they won't also give you one for v3. They don't know whether you have used the SN or not, but have fulfilled their part of the deal by giving you the number v

I have been unable to use the serial number supplied as both times I tried to download LR2, the file failed to pass dmg file verification and would not therefore install. I have emailed Leica software support on this issue.

Wilson, did you download LR2 direct from Adobe? The failed dng is their responsibility, not Leica's.

Andy,

I cannot recall now what the URL was. I did it from the link on the Leica website but I don't know if that cross links to Adobe. I don't now think there is a download of 2.6.1 available from Adobe. The failed .dmg is probably the fault of Orange France, my ISP, as I have had quite a few corrupted dmg's in the last few weeks. I got a friendly France Telecom engineer to change my copper line to another pair in the French equivalent of the green streetside T3 box earlier this week and I seem to have a better connection now. I have also put in another 5 DNS IP addresses in my network preferences, as advised to me by running Namebench. That has also speeded up my Internet.

Andy, I think I have had a free copy because I downloaded from the site and got an LR2 license. But I have not activated it.

What a screw up -- if it was supposed to be LR3, why are they d/l-ing LR2 licenses?

And ... waiting to hear from Leica.

*&^%$#@!

If you have previously been given an LR2 serial number by Leica, then their obligation to you is fulfilled, whether you have activated the software or not.

You would only be entitled to a LR3 serial number if you had never had a LR2 number at all, OR, you have bought a new Leica product and are entitled to another serial number with that TAN.

As soon as you use your TAN to get a serial number, that's it.

I took delivery of my M9 only about a month ago, in June, 2010. I downloaded and activated LR 2, being ignorant of the fact that had I waited a few weeks, I could have had LR 3. As it stands now, I can't download LR3.

I saw nothing officially from Leica telling me to wait and not to download LR 2. It seems unfair that those who, by chance or rumor, waited a few weeks for LR 3 but bought their camera and registered it at the same time as I, would be offered LR 3 and I would not.

You really expected this?
