The Lightroom 3 thread [including "Does my free SN work with LR3?"] [Merged]

Any news about LR3 downloads on a TAN#? My Lr3.2beta has now gone away, and I had erased a perfectly good copy of LR2 in the meantime. "In the next two weeks" stated at the beginning of July is starting to sound like the promised M9 firmware upgrade for last Friday.

You can download and try the full LR3 version for 30 days free. It is a full working version. The only difference is every time you open it, a window comes up to tell you how many days you have left.

C'mon Adobe and Leica. Is Adobe really trying to say the deal was only for version 2 for the entire production run of the M9. Is some Adobe negotiator snickering at his own "cleverness" against the Germans...

Sounds like the best solution for you is to reload your LR2 and use that licence until the LR3 arrangements are complete. I kept my LR2.7 install active while using the LR3 beta.

I doubt that there's snickering nor non-cooperation by Adobe with Leica Camera with whom they partner.

My frustration lies with Adobe. It should have taken one phone call from Leica and 24 hours for this issue to be resolved. I'm guessing Leica paid a respectable fee to Adobe to include their software with the M9. I can understand how a free upgrade would not be included to those that had activated the LR2 license while LR2 was the current release. I am less understanding that LR3 would not become the default license for those activating their license after the date that LR3 became the current release.

I had LR2 long before my M9. I can upgrade to LR3 for less than US100. Given what I am willing to spend on my photography, the US100 is not the issue.

Maybe I don't understand the sluggish ways of a corporate behemoth like Adobe.

Consider this:

It has been reported that Adobe would very much like Canon and Nikon, as well as others, to abandon their proprietary formats and adopt the DNG "standard". They seem, so far, to have few takers. Leica on the other hand has chosen, for better or worse, to adopt DNG. You would think that Adobe would give Leica outstanding service and special support for their files, and hope that the rest of the pack would see the advantages of working with Adobe and quickly adopt DNG .

Instead, we get this and everyone loses.

Leica, on the other hand, has proven time after time that they are always late and don't always do what they say they will do. Their customers are treated like an afterthought. The current situation is unnecessary, yet they say nothing and let their customers wonder and wait. I wouldn't surprise me if Leica hasn't gotten around to calling Adobe yet.

I wish I knew where the bottleneck was. I would include the guilty on my s%^& list.

Leica Camera does not have the resources and expertise to support a proprietary Raw format. DNG in any event has significant advantages for us as users. For example the ability to profile individual cameras for a start. I'm pleased that Leica Camera has gone this way personally. Lightroom represents much better value for users too.

There's no requirement for special support for Leica DNG's; that's part of the reason for DNG in the first place.

Everyone knows the current options, I'm sure. There's no information whatsover to suggest that Adobe are 'dragging their feet' on this. Surely its no great hardship to wait until the solution is put in place. Hardly reason to be so critical or impatient with either company, in my opinion.

There is a lot of wishful thinking here Adobe does not have a track record of handing out serial numbers for new products in lieu of what you got............ Leica is small fry for adobe, Lightroom picks up more than their share of nikon and canon users so that is not an issue , m9 users are minimum in numbers

.........., stuff like graphics (PS, premier In Design, Illustrator etc) and Acrobat is where the money is to be made. Lightroom is a lightweight in comparison

my LR3 trial would have come to and end 3 days ago but I haven't shut it down and it seems to keep running so my advice is don't turn it off and wait for Leica to get it together.

Yes, the Adobe trial versions don't check the trial period rundown continuously but at start-up time only. So if you launch the program before the trial period has run out then you can keep it running far beyond the end of the trial period as long as you don't terminate the program.

However I'm afraid sooner or later you WILL terminate it.

Does anyone have any update on LR3 availability yet? I have bought an M9 and LR3 is the latest edition so I expect to have LR3... why should I have to pay for an upgrade? Maybe by the time I get my M9 back from the factory after they fix the sensor problem (I got about 4 days of use out of it in total) I will be able to download LR3...

leicarumors.com: The rumor is that the new version of Adobe LightRoom 3 will be available for download in the Leica owner’s area somewhere around July 24th, 2010 (and maybe even earlier). If you have not used your licence code to install the previous Adobe LightRoom 2 version, you will be able to download the latest version for free.

As suggested by a member, just change the date of the computer (to an earlier date) prior to launching LR3, then after launching, reverse back the computer date to today. It worked under Mac OS. At least until the LR3 license is offered in the owners page.

Yes, that might work (haven´t tried). However, be very careful NOT to run any incremental backup s/w (e.g. Time Machine) while you have the earlier date set; you´ll wreak havoc....

All this drama about a 99 Dollar software, included with a 6k camera?

This forum never ceases to amaze me ;)

Dirk

One correction - if someone does not already own a previous licensed copy of Lightroom it is 299 dollar software.
