Faulty M9 Returned... This is my letter to Leica

I thought this was supposed to be a forum for Leica users. Users - not the company.I didn't realise that there was some hidden agenda of having to be 'balanced' and take Leica GmbH into account. As someone else pointed out, there is enough of a one-sided Leica marketing machine already in full swing - we have no public right of response there to any of their slippery misrepresentations.

I think the respondents who maintain that the OP should have waited for Leica's response before posting his perfectly reasonable letter, which might well be of interest to others, create an unappetising, and suffocating pseudo-moral atmosphere - a bit like being told off by the school prefect.

Wolfloid , the obvious counterpoint to your post is that other contributers disagree with what you have to say. However all members are free to express their opinions as has the OP and other contributers to the thread. No-one is being stifled. I did read your previous 20 posts to gain an insight into your views.

You describe some other members with phrases like:

'snide, stuffy sounding old codger, stubbornly hidebound, fawning sycophancy, craven, rather arrogant, self-satisfied, pretentious,

You describe Leica Camera actions with language like:

risable and shameful, lying, deliberately misleading, mendacious nonsense, marketing bullshit, How they can write this shit, audacity, 'Frechheit', It still stuns me that some of these design disasters managed to get past the Leica wonks, stubborn stupidity, Now, at last, they have addressed some of these failings in the M9, but let's not pretend that they wern't bad errors of design judgment. a real travesty of their much touted 'quality control'.

Perhaps you can see that others find those sort of remarks unpleasant, emotive, negative or even offensive.

Every now and then I dip into the M9 forum to keep alive my fear of spending £4850 on a camera and then receiving a lemon. Mind you, I've had my M8 lock up, fail to write to cards, die unexpectedly when the battery suddently loses power etc. Fortunately, I am a weekend snapper.

It is ludicrous to call this a Leica bashing thread. That’s an insult to the OP. I do wish this forum would get over characterising any report of equipment failure as an attack on Leica. As I know from my own experience, Leica’s quality control is not 100% effective and I doubt that they would claim that it was.

That's a fair comment for which I apologise. It is of interest (to me, at least) however, that Frank, to whom the comment was intended, only chooses to post on threads which do have a complaint or problem theme.

I think forum members are savvy and intelligent enough to read the forum and weight things for themselves ... or at least I hope so.

It's all about balance isn't it? I for one appreciate reports from users, bad or good, as it keeps me alerted to possible issues or not. I think I'm able to filter through both the grousing language, and hyperbolic rhetoric of Liecaphiles.

I am NOT a weekend snapper with my M9 kit, and use it for wedding photography ... of which I have two M9s ($14,000.!), because I don't trust anything from Leica made in the past 5 years or so. They have to earn my confidence back which isn't an over-night deal. So far, so good ... except the second brand new M9 wouldn't recognize any SD card ... none. My dealer replaced it. How in the heck something that obvious got out of the factory mystifies me.

Anyway, love what I get from the M9s and wouldn't trade them for anything.

Not specifically a troll. Just somebody who is unsuited to decent company.
I thought we were all psychopaths :D

Nevertheless Hoppymans observations seem relevant, I hadn't noticed this specimen before. As a feeble excuse, my computer fried on me last weekend and I have spent most of my free time bringing the thing back to life.

I must say, I've enjoyed all the constructive contributions to this thread. Very enlightening.

The best thing about this thread for me was the link above ('constructive') and the OP's breathtaking imagery

I didn't like that link - it took me ten minutes to rid my computer of ad- and spyware after clicking through on it.

That is what happens Jaap, when you try to read up on fanboyism! The Ten Golden Rules are good though!

When you click on this link you are on your own; no liability accepted:eek:

Well I found that link through an unimpeachable source - and noticed absolutely no I'll-effects myself. I guess this must be a Mac/PC difference - but apologies all the same.

I'll confine myself to Wikipedia in future - they have some great articles on Cognitive Dissonance, and all of its sub-types.
