These are my mint M3 and the 50mm rigid Summicron that I bought a couple of years ago from Boris.
Lens and camera are from 1957, my year of birth.
It received an extensive CLA from Van Maanen, new cartons etc.
The lens was completely disassembled and cleaned and adjusted.
It will never be sold and it will be for my daughter when I am not be there anymore.

Is "Boris" the seller I see on Ebay? If so is he reputable?

Boris is one of the well known Leica sellers that offer their Leica products on Ebay.
I had only good experiences with him.

I've seen his listing but been leery of buying a Leica off Evilbay. He does have a M5 that looks interesting. Maybe in a month or so, I'm about to buy a new car and watching buying things I don't really need (I have 1 already) until I get that sorted out.

I think this 1956 M3 is so gorgeous and the double stroke so much fun, that I just bought a 2nd one.

I bought this camera about one year ago (from Classic Store Vienna), really enjoying it! Probably a DS (elephant ears) converted to SS.

This combo has been a long time coming for me: 1962 Dual-Range Summicron repaint from Kanto in Japan, and a 1959 M3 repaint from Patagonean in Chile.

2 x 3 is so much more than M6
and DS don't stand for double Stroke! DS means germ. 'DOPPELTER SPASS' (engl. for double fun)

When did the Canada Plant start?

looks Like here and there from 1956 to 1966 The larger font M3 before the serial is the give away. Or if your are looking at a serial number list the Me designation is followed by ELC

The article implies, "In the middle of the 1970s ELC decided to look into the manufacture of cameras as well. "

So my 1957 Leica M3 would have been built and assembled in Wetzler. Yes?

Midland made Leitz camera's many years before the middle of the 1970's, as the previous message says as well. Perhaps that date comes from the decision to continue with Leica M camera's and the production of the M4, resulting in the M4-2 which was designed and produced in Midland, with a small number made in Wetzlar.
