The serial number says it's from Wetzlar, but the big M points to Midland indeed. And we know that the Leitz/Leica serial numbers aren't always as easy to interpret as we would like. According to the list of serial numbers by Laney in 1956 groups of M3, IIIf and IIIg were produced in Midland, and in 1957 as well. Lex

Don Flynn Posted May 3 Share #934 Posted May 3 (edited) My 1959 "Transitional" the day I bought it last December. It's since been CLA'd by DAG Camera. The meter was DOA but I'm using a KEK model on it. It EVER stops raining I'm going to take it and my "new" M5 DAG just did the same with a battery conversion out. I've run 1-2 rolls through the M3 so far, getting the hang of it These were from the 1st test roll, 50mm Summerit. I think I screwed up setting the KEK meter, most of the roll was underexposed. I need to find this building again, I got a 35MM Voigtlander f1.7 lens in that I want to get a better angle on. hydet Posted May 8 Share #935 Posted May 8 I think this 1956 M3 is so gorgeous and the double stroke so much fun, that I just bought a 2nd one. Welcome, dear visitor! MinRas Posted May 31 Share #936 Posted May 31 Hi, have bought my first Leica film camera M3 few days ago, very good cosmetics but has some issues because stands in closed for decades, now after full CLA at evenings full working condition. But surprised how easy to focus much much better than my M11-P test roll with lux 50 and voigtlander 50 F1 and leica 90mm F2 no issues at all, shiny viewfinder ufff I like it .... . Another story internals no plastic everything perfect it looks like leica prepared to work this cameras for hundreds years. Only lens where was with this camera 5cm f2.8 elmar have haze in front element tried lot of methods to clean but no luck cloudy mist option enabled by default . Test roll on foma 100 but leica optics shines in that case. Welcome, dear visitor! misteracng Posted June 2 Share #937 Posted June 2 Same for me. My M3 has the smooth film advance and shutter release of all my film M bodies, the shutter is also the quietest. Focusing is unmatched as well. It’s never been better then a body made in the 60s

satijntje Posted June 3 Share #939 Posted June 3 These are my mint M3 and the 50mm rigid Summicron that I bought a couple of years ago from Boris. Lens and camera are from 1957, my year of birth. It received an extensive CLA from Van Maanen, new curtons etc. The lens was completely disassembled and cleaned and adjusted. It will never be sold and it will be for my daughter when I am not be there anymore. Welcome, dear visitor!
