Apart from the collectors market and value, this is a very, very pretty M3.

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. IMHO black looks great - until it gets scuffed and worn like that.

Which is why I bought a chome M3 in '68 rather than a black paint one, and it still looks quite smart now. :)

In fact it has worn better than my 12 year old black chrome M6ttl :(

Been meaning to return with a non-iPhone picture.

M3 bought from original owner then serviced & re-covered, just works. It is just my favourite 'thing'.

As much as I intend to get an M9 or some version of that 18mp sensor, I doubt it'll last as long as this - 57 years & still going strong!

I've long used & loved Zeiss glass but (I don't have the budget yet), one day would like to fit a summilux 50 to it.

Hi, I've been an M9 user, then M240, then M6. Last week, in a moment of weakness, I purchased this 1956 DS M3. Always wanted a camera older than I am (I'm 55). Just ran roll through her yesterday.

Here's my 1956 M3 DS with my grandfather's 1937 Summar 5cm/2.0 LTM lens. I had the Summar CLA'd by DAG last year because it had some clouding and Youxin Ye just CLA'd the M3 body last week for me.

Hi B. Toews,

Great looking setup. I was looking at the same Canon 50/1.4 LTM. What's your experience with it? Good value for money?

Dom

Thanks! I'm quite happy with it. It's fairly small and doesn't block the VF, my copy is sharp wide-open (especially on film, I have also used it on an M240 with good results) and it's also fairly inexpensive. The only think I don't like is the 1 metre MFD, which can be limiting at times.

Jeff, the orange cover looks great!
