wilfredo Posted May 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some describe the bigger size of the 50mm Summilux ASPH as a disadvantage over the smaller Summicron. Can someone please post some 50mm Summilux ASPH porn on an M body? This will give the rest of us a better sense of how much bigger it really is. Thanks

wparsonsgisnet Posted May 6, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 6, 2010 Isn't the 50 'lux non-asph bigger than the 'cron shown?
Shootist Posted May 6, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 6, 2010 Although the images post are very good the one thing forgotten is the newer version 50 Cron. It has a built in hood that make the lens seem fatter and longer then the older versions. I've had both at the same time and always took the Lux with me or had the Lux on the camera. The Cron seemed to always stay at home. That's the big reason I sold it.
cbretteville Posted May 6, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 6, 2010 Bill, yes all versions of the pre-aspherical Summiluxes are larger and heavier. The first mounts used E43 filters, the last E46 the same as the ASPH version. Carl

wparsonsgisnet Posted May 6, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 6, 2010 A little more money and we'd all be home free. I was showing my M9 and 50 'lux-a to a coworker, today, who uses Nikon's and Nikon lenses. He asked me what the camera cost and I said the body was 7. He said, "seven hundred?" and I said no. He asked about the lens and I said about 4. He said, "four hundred?" and I said no. His camera d100 or like that was 1800 and his best zoom was 1800. I explained about the elves that hand adjust everything and then we related it to owning a BMW that merely loses value. I did not forget, I can't photograph a lens I haven't got.Carl I am surprised to discover limits in others. I thot it was just my assistant. It's interesting, my first lens was the 50 'cron DR, in chrome. My 50 and 35 'lux-a's feel light in comparison. (Forget the bug-eyes.)
lct Posted May 6, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 6, 2010 Size wise the pre-asph Lux is in between.
delander † Posted May 6, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 6, 2010 Here is the 50 lux and current 50 cron (both extended at focus distance 0.7m - hoods not extended) with a proper camera and lens in the background:D Actually the lux is noticeably bigger than the cron on camera. cbretteville Posted May 6, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 6, 2010 I am surprised to discover limits in others. I thot it was just my assistant. I admit to owning an above average number of 50mm lenses, but even I can not justify getting the same lens twice even if the mounts differ. Besides I much prefer the focusing tab (enough that my Elmar-M is at DAG having one fitted - Leica CS in Solms refused to do it). Carl

wilfredo Posted May 6, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted May 6, 2010 Size wise the pre-asph Lux is in between. All these pictures are very helpful. The size of the new LUX seems fine on an M8 which is what I plan to use it with. Again thanks.

wilfredo Posted May 7, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted May 7, 2010 Peter, Big is relative :-) How do you like the silver lens on your silver body? I'm undecided about color. My M8 is silver. Any chance you can provide a front and side view? Thanks.

Wifredo, You will get really nice images with the 50 lux ASPH on an M8. A 67 mm focal length at f1.4 is very sweet with that lens.
