Advertisement Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Hi MachineGun, Take a look here Lens colour?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted April 30, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 30, 2010 Pink, goes with anything but they're so rare! Ever tried using a camera/lens for taking photos instead of jewellery?
jaapv Posted April 30, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 30, 2010 I have a red M8 - I am looking for a white/red candystripe Noctilux to go with it....
Shade Posted April 30, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 30, 2010 Early, I couldn't stop laughing haha. Anyway, does it matter? Why don't you try it yourself and see. Btw - I prefer the army camouflage colour for my camera..
gwelland Posted May 1, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 1, 2010 Welcome to the forum. I'll give a serious answer, but it's my personal preference: Black & black - classic combo that always works. Chrome/grey & black - the other classic. Chrome/grey & silver - I think this a gorgeous combination. Black & chrome - doesn't quite work initially but grows on you. It's probably the toughest combo to decide whether you like, dislike, hate or love. I think any of these emotions can apply to this combination. White M8 looks awful with anything, even the silver lens it comes with. IMHO. Safari green & silver looks great. Shame it's only a special M8 combo (unless it's a film body). Hope that helps. You'll probably find that others think differently than me but, hey, that's the beauty of choice. Another factor is lens weight. Most chrome/silver lenses are heavier although the alloy lenses are the same weight.

Well summarized If you don't own any lenses yet then the grey colored M9 may well suit you if you plan to get both colored lenses. I never owned a Leica before, so got a black M9 and all black lenses and am very happy - I love the black look. But many here desire the grey M9 instead - so it's choice. After a while you probably won't care. I must confess - I removed the while M9 paint and changed the red for a black Leica Dot to get a totally black M9. Ecar Posted May 1, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pink, goes with anything but they're so rare! +1, but then you may get tired of it. You need several in different colors, just like shoes, to match your outfit and your mood. Also, on a slim and athletic body, any color will do. Conversely, darker colors will be better suited to a rather plump body. One's age is a factor too: when she was 6, my daughter wanted a pink camera for Xmas, so I got her an HP P&S. Now that she's 10, she wants a black one. Go figure... A subscription to a lens review site may help make the right choice. However, over time, you'll realize that it's not the color of the lens that matters... it's the color of the camera bag. Hope this helps. Sorry - couldn't resist... andybarton Posted May 1, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 1, 2010 Come on guys, give the OP a break. It's a perfectly legitimate question and poking fun at a first time poster isn't helpful. MachineGun - All lenses perform the same, so choose whichever you wish. It's entirely up to you and no one is going to point at you in the street for having a black lens on a silver body, or a silver one on a black body. They would laugh if you had a pink lens... And welcome to the forum.
SJP Posted May 1, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 1, 2010 There is at least 1 pink leather covered M8 - no matching lenses are available I'm afraid. The summary given previously is accurate enough silver body then black and silver lenses look good, black body then black lenses are preferred by most. I actually quite like the white M8. Interestingly there have not been any special M9 editions announced yet (exept the M8 engraved M9's).
Guest ccmsosse Posted May 1, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 1, 2010 Come on guys, give the OP a break. It's a perfectly legitimate question and poking fun at a first time poster isn't helpful. Thank you for that comment I value the Leica Forum as a learning and discussion forum, not a place where people are made fun of. 5 Months ago I too was completely new to rangefinders and Leicas - so why not ask any and every question? MachineGun Posted May 1, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted May 1, 2010 Come on guys, give the OP a break. It's a perfectly legitimate question and poking fun at a first time poster isn't helpful. Andy Thanks for the info, and thanks for sticking up for me. Here I had thought I had found had found a forum that was devoid of children, but alas they seem to be everywhere. Thanks again MachineGun
luigi bertolotti Posted May 1, 2010 Share #12 Posted May 1, 2010 Welcome to the forum !!! Opinions can differ... anyway my strong belief is chrome - on - chrome : unfortunately there are some black only lenses... .... acceptable...
earleygallery Posted May 1, 2010 Share #13 Posted May 1, 2010 But Mrmachinegun, why on earth does it matter? If you're Caucasian pink is stealthier than chrome or black.
gwelland Posted May 1, 2010 Share #14 Posted May 1, 2010 I value the Leica Forum as a learning and discussion forum, not a place where people are made fun of. 5 Months ago I too was completely new to rangefinders and Leicas - so why not ask any and every question? I've been around here a long time and I agree with you. I think that questions about bags, lens choices and camera body/lens choices are all legitimate and deserve discussion for new members. I find it annoying when folks here respond sarcastically to new members or give the inevitable 'it's been discussed many times before - search the archive' response (which isn't as simple or obvious as it sounds - if you're going to say that then at least have the courtesy to link to one of the threads). machinegun: don't be fazed by the responses - there are lot's of knowledgeable folks here that share useful information. I learn something new or interesting here every week.

jaapv Posted May 1, 2010 Share #17 Posted May 1, 2010 Tongues are in cheeks from time to time... Anyhow, I like to use my tools, but I like them to look nice as well. Hands up anybody who has never been in a fight with his wife over the colour of his new car - or the seat covers- leather or cloth... Not to mention alloy wheels... wattsy Posted May 2, 2010 Share #20 Posted May 2, 2010 Hands up anybody who has never been in a fight with his wife over the colour of his new car - or the seat covers- leather or cloth... Not to mention alloy wheels... I have my hand up. My wife couldn't give a hoot what the colour of my car is or what the seat covers are made of. Why would she? I'm not sure I even discussed anything about my car (which, incidentally, is bright yellow) with my wife before ordering it.
