Advertisement Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Hi vladik, Take a look here Cosmic Radiation. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Chuck Albertson Posted June 24, 2017 Share #22 Posted June 24, 2017 You could hide in a cave during sun-spot activity... Jaap, you're actually safer from cosmic radiation during high sunspot activity. It pumps up the sun's magnetic shield and affects the solar wind, both of which provide some shielding from cosmic radiation, which originates outside our solar system. The 11-year solar cycle is currently in a nose dive to solar minimum (low sunspot activity, and the last solar maximum was nothing to write home about), so we're all getting an extra dose of cosmic radiation - no charge! Back when Kodak was still manufacturing TMax P3200 film, they kept the raw stock stored deep in some salt mine, as that emulsion was particularly susceptible to damage by cosmic radiation. I still have some in my freezer (which provides no protection from dem ol' cosmic blues) and shoot a roll or two periodically just to see how bad the cumulative damage is.
