wlaidlaw Posted November 4, 2016 Share #9164  Posted November 4, 2016 Not sure about the year but the rest is 100%. I cannot make out the year on the plaque but even so, there were lots of wrong dates and other details in this little French museum, so I would not put any reliance on that. I suspect it either is a later 35/36 car with the 2.6 engine or else someone has put the big SS100 front brakes on an earlier car, which is always possible. I had a 3.5L SS100, which was a nice car with lovely steering, lots of performance, excellent brakes, good handling and so on. It must have been as big a revelation at £425 in 1936 as the E-Type was at £2000, when it came out in 1961. However, the SS 100 is very uncomfortable to drive for any extended period, as the clutch pedal is hard against the transmission tunnel and there is nowhere to rest your left foot. You end up tucking it under your right leg and changing gears without using the clutch by matching engine speed at each change.  Your turn.  Wilson   Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted November 24, 2016 Share #9174 Â Posted November 24, 2016 It makes me think of the first Porsche, but it seems to be older.
John Z. Goriup Posted November 24, 2016 Share #9175  Posted November 24, 2016 Stuart,  your instincts are spot on - it is a Porsche, in fact it's arguably correct to claim that it is "sort of" the first Porsche, but before turning it over for the next 'mistery car' post, for the sake of "naming this car", and to get more 'players' involved and seeing / reading the guesses of others who may wish to take part in solving the puzzle, I'd like to hold out for a more specific identification of this most historic of Porsches.  Therefore..........I submit before we move on, let's attempt to identify the year, model and the specific, notable achievement of this particular Porsche, please. Probably should have stated that up front in my original post - sorry, I just didn't think anyone would get so close, that soon.  Thanks for playing,  JZG
