To maintain the momentum here's another puzzler. Imported into the UK in 2000; truck has a 4 cylinder engine with three speed transmission (plus reverse).

Renault type II 1921.

Wilson that's correct  … a Renault Type II 'little lorry' and the year is approximately correct - but also well known by its 'Camionette' model name.

Here is your next puzzle since we are going through a commercial phase. I am afraid I don't know the answer but I can find out next year, as it lives near my French house. The radiator cap looks a bit like a Stutz but the radiator shape is wrong for that. Any other ideas folks?

Dunk,

Well done. How did you track that down on Flikr. I had a fairly extensive hunt through images in Google for French fire engines trying to find out what it was, without success. I was going to phone up Ludovic de Beauséjour vineyard in Villecroze, where it lives, to find out but you have saved me the trouble. I was actually there to drive the Citroen Kegresse half track, which is the wheel you can see just behind the de Dion and took a few pictures of the other vehicles in this very eccentric collection.

....back to you.

Wilson, The wheels are very similar to the Renault 'Little Lorry' so was unlikely to be a Stutz. Various searches based on 'French 1920s fire trucks' eventually showed the other very shabby looking De Dion fire engine; the radiator shape minus its mascot nailed it and the same set includes your vehicle; lucky with the search parameters. I'll post another mystery car later.
