Simon,

Mercedes saloon cars changed so little (understandably) from around 1937 to 1954 and all the smaller models look pretty much the same, I am struggling to date and model this car. By the absence of bonnet louvres, I would guess post war, so as a stab in the dark, lets go for a 1949 170S Cabriolet.

Yep, you're good :) I'm not sure about the year, but it is the 170S Cabriolet, photographed outside the new Leica campus last Friday. Your turn!

The car had been parked for a while as I think there was a Mercedes Owner Club visiting the factory, but I was surprised with the amount of noise the car was making, even though the ignition was off. Lots of clanks and clunks coming from inside the car somewhere.....

So as not to derail the thread any longer I shall reveal all and let someone else have a turn. Just a little light-hearted tangent on my part. Forgive me:D

It's a... Little Tikes Kids car

Only full-size, road legal, able to do 70mph and based on a Daihatsu (IIRC). Apparently built by a new/small company trying to build promotional vehicles. This seems to have done the trick for them
