Advertisement Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Hi dkCambridgeshire, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted September 8, 2013 Share #5482 Posted September 8, 2013 Correct an SS2, later to become Jaguar cars. I suppose the SS2's main competitor was the F type Magna MG but at least that had a 6 cylinder engine, if rather tiny one. The SS I had was a 1938 3.5L SS100, which was only just over £300 new and looked one of the sexiest cars in the world at the time, a Lagonda M45 or Alfa 8C at a third or less of the price. The sort of car you could see Leslie Philips driving. The SS2 however wrote cheques that its feeble Standard Motor Co. engine could not really cash and was one of William Lyons' few failures. The Capri 1300 of its day. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! dkCambridgeshire Posted September 8, 2013 Share #5483 Posted September 8, 2013 Wilson, I'd already looked at SS but went from the Austin 7 straight to SS100 - and missed the earlier models ... and didn't immediately get the German connection. Here's the next car ... should be fairly easy ... no clue necessary. Welcome, dear visitor! Rona!d Posted September 8, 2013 Share #5484 Posted September 8, 2013 The Capri 1300 of its day. Funny. Oh dear, I was thinking of Jag in the beginning but that was "too well known" for me to check details.

Rona!d Posted September 9, 2013 Share #5488 Posted September 9, 2013 Those false whitewall inlays (Atlas) are pretty dangerous. I´ve seen tyres which got ruined on the sidewall.
wlaidlaw Posted September 9, 2013 Share #5489 Posted September 9, 2013 Renault Fregate. Wilson
Rona!d Posted September 9, 2013 Share #5490 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) The wheels suggest Renault or Peugeot, but for a Fregate it looks too edgy for my taste. I thought of Simca or some foreign product of a Renault (maybe Argentina, eastern Europe etc.) The external trunk holder reminded me of our Peugeot 304S Cabriolet, but I don´t know any Peugeot to which the rest fit. wlaidlaw Posted September 9, 2013 Share #5492 Posted September 9, 2013 Ronald, That style of Cibie lights is very late 1950's and the wheels look Renault-ish. I too thought about a Simca Aronde but I think they all had an eyebrow headlight surround (ditto the Vedette). I agree that it looks a bit "square cut" for a Frégate. Guest ksmart Posted September 9, 2013 Share #5497 Posted September 9, 2013 Yes, the last pic ;-) There was some irritation first, because I remembered the 33 to have one single instrument in the panel (may have been different for export-cars). I know, that many people think this car to be ridiculous, but in fact it has some brilliant ideas built in, the specific 'Netherlands-pragmatism'. I'm not at home for ten days and have no access to my pictures; so please continue who likes. Lenn
