As I said, even for Andreas it´s "greek" - BINGO! :D

It looked like Bentley but for finding the right one I somehow thought about something to do with Greece ;-)

Well even if not confirmed by Wilson, Ronald is always right :p

Sorry,

I should have confirmed that Ronald was correct. He and I had been having a private conversation off the forum. I think of it as the Pourtout 4¼ Bentley rather than the Embiricos but it is the same car. Here is the whole car:

I think this Pourtout/Embiricos Bentley must be rather special. I drive a 1939 Vanden Plas bodied 4¼ four seat drophead coupé Bentley quite often and it is rather an ordinary car to drive. I think its body must be very heavy and the engine is very quiet, so little in the way of excitement.

The car itself has had a quite exciting history. It was ordered new by the UK ambassador to Hungary in 1938/9 and shipped to Budapest. After war was declared by Hungary in 1940 against the allies, the ambassador drove the car across war torn Europe, with his family and their possessions, on diplomatic plates and the car was then shipped from Portugal to the UK. His experiences of that journey would make some story.

Here is a pic. Grey colour for a rather grey car, handsome but not sexy. This is in France, where having loads of unbelted children in car is not an issue (there are no belts).

Thank you, Andreas! Its not so easy to make impressive photos in a museum, always lack of place, other visitors, barriers...s o, you did a good job!

And here is the next riddle, from the dawn of motorsports, not taken in a museum, but "wildlife". Not an MG, years before Cecil Kimber always was thinking about producing sportscars. Can you name the car - at least the marque?

Cheers, Andreas

Dear Wilson,

not a Wolseley Moth, not british at all. Its continental, and has been produced in the last months of a totally different world, to make a hint concerning year of built...

But in the years between the wars, there have been some very interesting connections between englishmen and the maker of our riddle car.

Cheers, Andreas
