steed Posted June 24, 2012 Share #3621 Posted June 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Neither a Daimler, an MG nor a Triumph. A hint: the car is not by an obscure manufacturer.

Cadfael_tex Posted June 24, 2012 Share #3622 Posted June 24, 2012 Austin A40?
Peter H Posted June 25, 2012 Share #3623 Posted June 25, 2012 Hard to believe an Austin A40 would have a rev-counter. A Riley or Wolseley maybe? Or do they count as obscure now? Or a Rover? Is that too many wild guesses?
Andreas.Pichler Posted June 25, 2012 Share #3624 Posted June 25, 2012 Would opt for Aston Martin...maybe a DB3S. Rev counter goes up to 8.000 rpm, it seems, and DBS3 had its max power around 6.000 revs. Steering wheel a little left of rev counter...maybe it fits? Cheers, Andreas PS: Astom Martin is definitely not obscure, I hope...

Andreas.Pichler Posted June 26, 2012 Share #3626 Posted June 26, 2012 Hm, looks a bit...obscure ;-) And here is the next one, obscure in a different way: series production car (but low production number), and very special purpose, as the spare tyre demonstrates. Make and model, please! Cheers, Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! stuny Posted June 26, 2012 Share #3627 Posted June 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The tire suggests an off-road ability, and the lights suggest pre WWII, or not long after it using pre-war bits.

Rona!d Posted June 27, 2012 Share #3631 Posted June 27, 2012 p.s. I´ll leave it to Andreas to tell the details and story behind this special car
Andreas.Pichler Posted June 27, 2012 Share #3632 Posted June 27, 2012 Ronald, you have got it - it is a Mercedes Benz G4. 72 cars had been built between 1933 to 1939. The car has three axles, two gearboxes and one 8-cylinder engine like the Mercedes 540K, but without supercharger. Only 4 cars have survided the war, where most of them have been used by leaders of the Third Reich. This special cars has been photographed in the "Auto und Technik Museum Sinsheim" (a good source for "name the car" puzzles, by the way...). On the museums homepage http://sinsheim.technik-museum.de/en/en/mercedes-benz-g4 there are some more photos and a video with a G4 in action. Cheers., Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! Rona!d Posted June 27, 2012 Share #3633 Posted June 27, 2012 One of the most scaring and ugly cars MB ever made.

stuny Posted June 28, 2012 Share #3637 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) Rona|d - Early to mid '50s, good chance from the UK based on the location of the speedometer, suggesting easy build for left or right hand drive. The mirror position suggests a coupe or roadster, and the steering wheel spokes make me think of my '58 MGA Coupe, which this is not. The shape of the speedometer suggests something more mundane than a 2-seater. Edited June 28, 2012 by stuny
Andreas.Pichler Posted June 28, 2012 Share #3638 Posted June 28, 2012 Seems that speedometer goes up to 140 - question is: miles or kilometer? Starter knob is simply marked "Start", which in german or english means the same. Maybe there is another hint in the photo if is an english car for the american market, an american car or maybe a german car? Cheers, Andreas
Rona!d Posted June 28, 2012 Share #3639 Posted June 28, 2012 A summary/confirmation of your so far "guessed" facts: A Roadster. Speedometer goes up to "just" 130 - but if kilometer or miles/h, I´ll leave open at the moment. About it´s provenance I won´t go into any further details until you are just wild guessing Tip: The company held some good records with their cars. Time made: With 1950´s you are a bit late. And here another shot (I had to delete the brand name, sorry). Welcome, dear visitor! Andreas.Pichler Posted June 29, 2012 Share #3640 Posted June 29, 2012 The dashboard is a bit...obscure. Expensive steering wheel, but tight. The speedo is in kilometres, I assume -lack of tachometer. Dashboard controls and door opener (in Phozoshp) are not looking british for me. The speedo bezel - lack of love. So: a small continental european roadster, owner does not care., DNA pre-war. Enough for an other estimate of guesses, Ronald? Cheers, Andreas
