steed Posted May 9, 2012 Share #3403 Posted May 9, 2012 another hint: power rather than handling was at the heart of its success
Andreas.Pichler Posted May 9, 2012 Share #3404 Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) If our riddle has british ancestors, real "Aces" of a car, powered by BMW (better: BMWs Bristol brother), then this one was not known for an engine faster than the chassis. So its maybe the americanized version reborn on a chicken farm (and maybe fed with the same steroids as the chicken) somewhere in the United States - Shelby Cobra? Cheers, Andreas Edited May 9, 2012 by Andreas.Pichler "steroids" added ;-)
jevidon Posted May 9, 2012 Share #3405 Posted May 9, 2012 I would have guessed AC Ace except you picture doesn't show the parking/turn signal light below the headlight. Same with the AC/Ford aka Cobra. So I remain stumped.
steed Posted May 9, 2012 Share #3406 Posted May 9, 2012 Shelby Cobra wins-early model with 289 cu in engine. The car, and many like it, were at a recent reunion event that I attended in Pomona, California. Here is the full size image (shrunk to fit the site requirements). Next.... Andreas.Pichler Posted May 10, 2012 Share #3408 Posted May 10, 2012 The perfect angle four our riddle...congrats. As James, I missed to see the indicator lights as well, but trying out with a model car - yep, it works. Next one will come before midnight CET (I am not sure if MG or non-MG...) Andreas.Pichler Posted May 10, 2012 Share #3409 Posted May 10, 2012 Here we are...looks like an "Audi" but in those (!) times long ago, when sex was more safe than motor racing, our riddle has nothing to do with Volkswagen. Please, name the car (non-MG)! Cheers, Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Rona!d Posted May 10, 2012 Share #3410 Posted May 10, 2012 Looks pretty much Italian to me, A Lancia it is not, but could be a route to go
jevidon Posted May 11, 2012 Share #3411 Posted May 11, 2012 Carello headlamps definitely put it in Italy. It looks very 1970's, and with the heavy handed eyebrow surrounding the double headlights it could be one of the Fiat family clones; Fiat or Lancia. stuny Posted May 11, 2012 Share #3412 Posted May 11, 2012 Let's start with a guess as to nationality - Italian?
Andreas.Pichler Posted May 11, 2012 Share #3413 Posted May 11, 2012 Dear fellow afficionados, one point for all of you going the italian route. A second point to Ronald for that its not a Lancia. Cheers, Andreas

Andreas.Pichler Posted May 11, 2012 Share #3416 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) Best greetings to Mrs Peel - production car! And don't forget to compare those (!) days to today. Would in 1979 have somebody imaginded that in 2012 "MG" is a brand of a chinese company? And would have somebody expected in 1968...that...? Cheers, Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! Rona!d Posted May 13, 2012 Share #3420 Posted May 13, 2012 That was a good one, doesn´t it look strange today? Back in those days it seemed to be pretty modern to me ;-) Remember it was used as a fire fighter car on race tracks in a very bright signal orange color with fire extinguisher canon on the roof.
