Sorry, Wilson, but Philip is right: it is a Fiat 500X (I don’t except anybody to be able to differentiate a 500 from a 500X, or L, or YZ, or whatever letter on such a photographic détail…). The only thing I know is that there is no Takata airbag inside 🙂.

Your turn Philip.

I knew it was not a 500. My wife had an Abarth 595, which with its rock hard suspension, coupled to our long and very bumpy drive, had an inordinate appetite for headlamp bulb filaments. I have spent many unhappy hours shredding my knuckles trying to change the headlight bulbs.

Headlamp bulb were provided by Lucas, i guess. It is now well known that Takata airbags, Lucas electrical parts and Abarth (absence of) suspension are among the best.

It has a 1980s Audi Quattro/Coupe look about it.

Good! That route was my cunning plan!......😸......but......

Well I think it is one of several sports versions (based on the vents) but it’s no Audi…

......as Nigel says it is not an Audi.

I suspect - from his comment - that Nigel is fairly au-fait (clue) with the basic model but simply doesn't know which version we have here. To aid this end and for the benefit of everyone I will post a third instalment;

Citroën BX?

I think you’re right: looks like a bx sport…

You are both correct!

It is, as a.j.z. says, a BX and it is also, as Bernard says, a sporting version of the BX!

To be as specific as I can I believe (with fairly good reasoning) a 1986-version BX19 GTi 8-valve.

During my 'Assistant' years there was one snapper who had one of these and I always loved the thing for a number of reasons as a practical form of transport for a Location Photographer. His, it has to be said, was well-maintained and - perhaps as a consequence - never had any issues where reliability was concerned.

Here is a snap of the whole from the front 3/4;

I'm sure Nigel will have already pinpointed the location where I came across this example and, truth be told, the owner of this car - unbeknownst to him / her - has been very generous where my contributions to this particular thread is concerned. This BX, I believe, celebrates the fifth car of theirs which has featured here over the years.

Just for fun here are three of the 'previously-posted' candidates sitting all-in-a-row snapped at the same time - two days ago - when this last 'Mystery' was captured;

As far as who gets to post the next mystery goes? You both came up with correct details so either sort it out between yourselves (But No Fisticuffs!) or, perhaps, First-Come-First-Served?

Thanks all for having taken part!

Philip.

Thanks! It is a little unfair as my mother had this car (also in black). The design was pretty advanced for the 80s. It also had an air suspension and when she started it, it moved up considerably. Quite a show at that time.

Her cars were pretty remarkable in general. The first I remember was a sporty version of a Beetle, also in black. Its tires were too wide. For the annual general inspection my parents borrowed the (narrower) tires from our neighbors Beetle. Then she had a 2CV (which became my first car) and after that the BX. The 2CV probably is still on the streets because I sold it to a guy who wanted to preserve it for his newborn daughter as a present for her 18th birthday.

Obviously, it is Andreas turn.

By the way, i had a BX Sport at the end of the eighties; not to be confused with the BX GTI: the GTI (injection engine) was a civilized version of the Sport (two double-barrel carburetors). In addition to being very ugly, the BX Sport was very uncomfortable: everything was hard in this car. But what a fun to drive!

I do not know, if you can call it a hot rod but V8 (likely Ford) and California is correct. It is a car that was driven in a well known movie. The brand name and the exterior (at first glance) suggests something far older.
