OK. I am not experienced at this so please be gentle with me!

This is a fairly new model and it is not a Chinese manufacturer.

-The way these "challenge" threads work is that whoever solves the mystery gets to post the next mystery.  Andy Piper's mystery car is still in play, though perhaps Wilson's guess is on target, in which case he would have the right to post the next mystery car.

Np. Just post it again once you solved a riddle or it’s a free for all round.

OK!

And a verbal hint - A model produced for about 30 years, with highly-varying external details over that period. Total production about 500,000 in that time; 900-70,000 per model year.

This particular grille only use for one year. Thus signature for identifying the exact time frame - if desired. The hexagonal embossment could hold an emblem (missing on this particular sample).

It has a Chevy look to the grill.

That would be a good hint!

Ford Thunderbird?

Wilson

No.

But Ford had a competing product, and that had a little Thunderbird design influence (or so they say). As well as sharing a T-Bird engine as an option.

I could, of course, be mistaken but I'm almost certain that you are on the right Path and that this is The Way to go......😸......

I'll sit this one out as - if my guess is correct (the rear-side and rearmost window rang a bell) - I posted an earlier version of this very vehicle some time ago and through researching background info on the model for that post used Wiki for background information therefore saw this type as well.

OK, this one is less obvious unless, like me, you parked next to it this evening at the VSCC pub meeting.

Taken with the Digilux 2 in 2006, when I was still learning what digi-cams could/could not do.

btw, how about making this thread a long-runner? If you guess the car, you have to post the next subject?

Pete, could we gave a full photograph please.

It might be possible Perkin, I suppose, but as the image in the link was posted 14 years ago and the poster last visited the forum nigh-on 2 years ago I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a reply...

It finally struck me that this might not be a coupe, but an El Camino/El Torino body style.  Let's guess GM El Camino variant from the late 70s to early 80s.

Um, what? Can you clean up that hot mess a little? 😁

Torino (sometime Gran Torino, but never El ) is a Ford model comprising several body styles - but not this type   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Torino

Ford (first) made a similar competing product called the Ranchero   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Ranchero

Chevrolet sold an El Camino

and GMC marketed a similar Sprint or Caballero

Pick one. 🤪 Name the year for extra credit (grille type only used for one year).

OK, then!

Definitely a Caballero or El Camino car-based light pickup truck from 1978-1986. You clearly qualify as our winner and next poster. 👍

I think it is a 1979 model, considering the single (rather than dual) headlights and the grille details. But given the penchant of Americans (and American car companies) to hot-rod, customize, swap parts, and sheet-metal-engineer effectively-identical cars (the raised hood or bonnet scoop is available as aftermarket), plus the fact this example has all the emblems removed, I doubt we can get any closer than that.

BTW, Chevrolet is reviving the El Camino name for - something - to be introduced in late 2025. "Guesswork" by car pundits seems to indicate it will be less light and delicate and car-like than the original, and more of "just another crew-cab crossover" design.  😰

We shall see.

I think we can be certain it's GMC and not Chevy based on the portion at the top center of the grill that would not hold a chevy bowtie logo, but could hold a GMC logo.

Let's try this one - All the usuals:

Ahh - but Chevy (and others) provided "hexagonalized" bow-ties (for hood ornaments or grille) for use on the El Camino and Malibu on which it was based.
