It looks a bit like a later version of the Mini Midas that I had and finally gave up on last year, selling the whole thing with 1430 Cooper S big bore engine for just £500. The original designer was Richard Oakes. My problem was that FIA/FIVA moved the goal posts on me and before I bought it, said I could run it with any Mini based push-rod engine but not with the DOHC converted Knight head. After I had bought it to use with my 1430 engine they said "Oh no max engine size is 998cc", so I was completely screwed.

Midas correct Wilson. Can you add actual model? This example first registered in April 1989 has a 1275cc engine

I believe it is the version made by Alternative Cars Ltd around 2006, from whom I bought the many boxes of parts, that comprised one of the two original Factory built road registered (in 1979) race cars. Alternative Cars were based in Clanfield Mill, Oxfordshire. I have previous shown a photo of me collecting the bodyshell and other bits in 2005 on this thread.

The car posted is the fairly well known Midas Gold model which dates from 1981. The manufacturing company changed hands several times and at one stage production ceased due to a factory fire. A new Midas Cars Ltd company was formed in 2001 but in 2003 went into liquidation – whence Alternative Cars restarted production of the Gold model but in kit form.

Motor Sport magazine published a favourable review of the Midas Gold in 1984 https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archive/article/march-1986/64/midas-gold-as-good-as/

Your turn again Wilson

The weird thing about when I saw the first crop...

...was that my very first thought was 'The alloys - and fitment-method - look uncannily similar to those used on the McLaren F1'...but OBVIOUSLY the car pictured had nothing whatsoever in common with such an exotic machine...so, in turn, my thinking went down the Jem Marsh / Mini Marcos Rabbit-Hole of Doom!

Thanks for posting such an unusual car, Dunk. Every Day is a School Day!

Regret due to health reasons restricting my mobility at present, I have no new photographs of cars. Therefore open to anyone who has a car to post.
