wlaidlaw Posted December 6, 2023 Share #21023  Posted December 6, 2023 Stuart, They used various engines including push rod Fiat engines. The main OSCA 4 cylinder in 1430, 1500 and 1600, which Fiat also used was certainly a twin cam. I have a feeling this may be a V engine, which is why I thought Lancia. I think it may be too short to be the Fiat 8V engine which Fiat and Siata used. The bulkhead petrol tank is interesting which is why I thought of the Appia long distance racing Coupe bodied by Motto, which had both a rear and front petrol tank. Wilson
Ivan Goriup Posted December 6, 2023 Share #21024  Posted December 6, 2023 Sorry for the delay, Wilson - not an OSCA either, rather, Stuart guessed correctly when he thought it looks like a Cisitalia. Stuart, the reason these bumpers look strange is because this happens to be one of the last dozen or so cars the company produced, i.e. a 303 model Coupe, wherein a less expensive 1100 FIAT chassis was adepted to form the core of the car. Since this was a 100 % Italian endeavor, it's not surprising that record keeping was less than completely reliable & accurate. It is generally accepted that the company produced a grand total of (about) 170 units, between its 1946 founding and the end of production in late 1953, mostly 202 Coupes, with about 20 units as 202 cabriolets and one dozen as 303 model coupes towards the end of their existence. Then image below is a crop of a shot of a completely original '53 303, one of the cars I used for this post. Leica M240-P / 35mm Summilux Asph. FLE JZG Welcome, dear visitor! Ivan Goriup Posted December 6, 2023 Share #21025  Posted December 6, 2023 The other Cisitalia ( the blue / gray Cabriolet which donated the engine compartment crop above ) is a 1947 202 SMM ( Spyder Mille Miglia ) and is essentially identical to the 202 Coupes produced by Cisitalia during it's brief heyday. Thanks for playing, your turn, Stuart. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! Must keep the Grey-Matter fed just in case I get a brainstorm! Philip.
