stuny Posted Saturday at 11:56 AM Share #24161  Posted Saturday at 11:56 AM Advertisement (gone after registration) It's based on a Mustang from between 1964 1/2 (Mustang came out in April of 1964) and 1966. The sheet metal after that was different. How about Ford Mustero? a.j.z Posted Saturday at 01:43 PM Share #24162  Posted Saturday at 01:43 PM (edited) Yes, a Ford Mustero, essentially a Mustang pickup truck. The name is a mix of Mustang and  Ranchero. Here is the story behind it: https://www.ford-trucks.com/articles/1966-ford-mustero-the-history-behind-fords-bizarre-mustang-ranchero-mashup/ The hint regarding the colour referred to the green used for Bullitt Mustangs. wlaidlaw Posted yesterday at 08:18 AM Share #24166  Posted yesterday at 08:18 AM Stuart, Do you know if they bought the grilles as spare parts from the local Jaguar dealer (XK120)? Open to all to post the next car. Wilson

It actually resembles the later XK140 grille rather than the XK120, which was narrower, had fewer and wider spaced bars. So unless Nick Brajevich had access to a time machine, it might be that Jaguar copied his grille rather than the other way round. Wilson

This is most definitely NOT the next mystery car per se but it IS a bit of a mystery car so if anyone has any ideas as to its origins I'd be delighted to learn! It was snapped by a friend the other week when he and the missus were on a road trip through the deserts of Namibia and he wondered if I knew what it might be. I replied that although I, myself, hadn't the foggiest I might know a number of folks who would know exactly which model-year it was let alone which model... The split rear-window does ring a bell but for the life of me I don't know why. Apologies for the poor quality but it wasn't exactly the main subject matter for the holiday snap...😸... wlaidlaw Posted 16 hours ago Share #24170  Posted 16 hours ago It might be a Mercury Eight from around 1948/49. Wilson
evikne Posted 16 hours ago Share #24171 Â Posted 16 hours ago (edited) Probably a late 1940s Studebaker Commander. Edited 15 hours ago by evikne
pippy Posted 12 hours ago Share #24172 Â Posted 12 hours ago Thanks very much for the suggestions, Wilson and evikne, but having had a google the rear of the window area seems to be a later-than-1940s wrap-around style and the rear-light cluster housing also seems to be a bit too advanced even for a car from the late 1940's My initial thoughts were that the origins were North American but the car could very easily have come to this part of Africa from a different continent from my assumption. I wish I had another view of the car but, understandably, this is all I have! Philip.
evikne Posted 5 hours ago Share #24173  Posted 5 hours ago Se picture number 3 and 6 here: https://buy.motorious.com/vehicles/65521/1948-studebaker-commander There is also a very similar Land Cruiser model, but I've learned that one of the differences is that the Land Cruiser has extended rear doors with a vent window, which this car lacks. So it's probably a Commander: https://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/forum/your-studebaker-forum/members-studebaker-pictures/1864049-how-do-you-know-if-its-a-land-cruiser-or-a-commander

I'm not sure what went awry when I googled the '48 Commander yesterday but of all the images which came up with the search not one was as seen in this link. Most odd and thank you once more! Philip. I don't know much about cars, but I can use tools to figure things out. That's probably not a good idea in this thread, usually, but in this case I thought it was okay, since the question was a little outside the usual purpose of the thread.
