Killed a Fuji and a Ricoh shooting in the rain 😕 The snap was taken yesterday at the Goodwood Revival. Weather forecasts (MET Office and BBC) said chance of rain was to be from 90% in the mid-morning gradually decreasing to about 40 or 30% by 17:00. Apart from a (very heavy) ten minute shower around 12:30 we enjoyed glorious sunshing the whole day until 45 mins into the last race of the day; the RAC TT Celebration Race for GT cars produced between 1960-'64. Watching the various Cobras, Ferrari 250 GT SWBs and E-Types slithering around for the last 15 minutes on a now greasy track under braking approaching 'Woodcote' was most entertaining... Mind you; due to our original train breaking-down at Gatwick Airport's rail station we arrived almost an hour later than planned so those who were 'Early-Birds' might have had a soaking prior to our arrival. I was particularly pleased the forecasters had got it so wrong (yet again!) because neither of my M-bodies nor, indeed, my little canvas camera bag are particularly weatherproof! Philip. stuny Posted September 14 Share #23885 Posted September 14 As Wilson indicates, it certainly looks like something commercial - Some sort of lorry, about which I have no knowledge.

It isn't a Talbot, Wilson but the timeframe is correct. In fact although the model lived for nigh-on a decade this particular example does, indeed, date to 1932. Philip. Hello, Wilson, and you are correct that the grille is wrong so, sadly, not a Morris of any sort. A more 'complete' showing of the Grille might be useful; Welcome, dear visitor! The company had a long-term interest not only in the world of Motoring but also in the world of Aviation and a few of the manufacturer's later vehicles shared names with a number of very famous aeroplanes which also had a very strong connection to the 'Mystery' cars manufacturer. wlaidlaw Posted September 15 Share #23893 Posted September 15 Maybe an Armstrong Siddeley 20HP of around 1932. Post war car was a Hurricane. Between the wars and some time afterwards they built aero engines and complete aeroplanes before the war. Wilson
pippy Posted September 15 Share #23894 Posted September 15 1 hour ago, wlaidlaw said: Maybe an Armstrong Siddeley 20HP of around 1932... Very close, Wilson, as it is an Armstrong Siddeley and does date to 1932 but the model here was not as powerful as the 20. This more generous crop of the front should settle things. pippy Posted September 15 Share #23897 Posted September 15 (edited) Agreed, Stu, and yes; it is an Armstrong Siddeley 'Twelve'. I realised that I knew practically nothing about the company so, when I was considering posting this as a 'Mystery Car', read up on the firm through their Wiki entry. Quite a complex story! As Wilson has already mentioned one of their post-WWII vehicles took its name from the Hawker Hurricane and there were other models which, similarly, took their names from RAF aircraft such as the (Avro) Lancaster, the (Armstrong Whitworth) Whitley, and two more from Hawker; the Typhoon and the Tempest; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armstrong_Siddeley A few shots to finish off. Two 'Whole Shebang' and one showing the marque's bonnet-mascot which took the form of a Sphynx; Welcome, dear visitor!
