wlaidlaw Posted September 12, 2024 Share #22542 Posted September 12, 2024 Obviously folks are struggling on this. The first crop was the rear of the car, so here is one of the front. It is made in England but not a TVR. Considerably rarer than that. The great majority of these cars were exported. Wilson

Speaking purely for myself, Wilson, I would far rather you gave us a little bit - a tight rop would be fine! - of the area between the nose and the bum to look at. wlaidlaw Posted September 18, 2024 Share #22553 Posted September 18, 2024 All wrong but it was made in England. The designer was not British, neither was the engine. Wilson
IkarusJohn Posted September 18, 2024 Share #22554 Posted September 18, 2024 British, I’d got; but was well down a TVR rabbit hole, and couldn’t find a way out. The rear quarter really reminds me of something, and the front was consistent; but the vent on the side blew me. So, it’s mid-engined - that had me completely flummoxed..

The designer was not British, neither was the engine... ............I've cheated............ I was so curious to find out what on Earth it could be that I resorted to searching the www. There's absolutely no way I could have guessed the answer to this puzzle; even when I read the name it meant nothing to me; I've never heard the manufacturer's name in my life! If anyone else would like to have a shot at the answer then that would be great! If no-one wants to have a go then I can, of course, post the answer but it would be more satisfactory were someone to get it correct off their own bat. Philip. EDIT : As far as the car being 'British'? Hmmm...good question. I do hope Wilson doesn't feel I'm letting any kitten out of the bag when I say that yes; it was manufactured - uniquely - in the UK which makes it even more British than is a Slough-assembled Citroen Traction Avant!......😸...... pippy Posted September 18, 2024 Share #22558 Posted September 18, 2024 (edited) I think I should put everyone's mind at rest as it seems to have stumped everyone including, I freely admit, myself. It's a first-generation 'Tommykaira ZZ'; a foray into the design and manufacture of a complete sports-car by the Japanese car-tuning company of the same name (minus the ZZ!). For some reason that I've not been able to discover the company set up by the Japanese founders to manufacture this car ('Tomita Auto UK') decided to build them not in their home country but in Norfolk, England(!). The car was released in 1996 but, as can be read in the following link, a disastrous 'blunder' by the Japanese Ministry of Transport, led to the company going under in 2000 by which time some 220 had been constructed; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommykaira_ZZ More on the 'Parent' company here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommykaira I'm sure we all thank Wilson for having posted such an interesting - and unusual - car. 'Every Day is a Schoolday' as it were. I do feel a bit of a fraud posting the next Mystery Car so I'll choose something slightly easier on the brain-cells to give us all time to recover......😸...... wlaidlaw Posted September 18, 2024 Share #22559 Posted September 18, 2024 (edited) Here is the full image of the TommyKairaZZ . The ZZ refers to the Nissan/Datsun 2.0 Litre ZZ engine, modified with hotter cams and replacement of the complicated and less than wholly robust electronic fuel injection by 4 Keihin carburettors (180PS). There was supposed to be two successor models the ZZ-S model with 200PS and the wide body model. It is believed that only one or two prototypes of the latter models were made. They were built in a small factory unit in Norfolk, where this photo was taken. They were supposed very light at just 650 kg although I very much doubt this figure. There is a successor model the Second Generation but this is electric (? the ZZ-EV). Having blown through $14M of investors money, inevitably the second company ceased trading in 2021. stuny Posted September 18, 2024 Share #22560 Posted September 18, 2024 Even though it has sealed beam headlights, it is very unlikely to be from the US. The tires and small overhang also argue against a US car of this vintage.
