Good looking competition car Ollie, is campaigning several cars on the hills depending on the event. I last saw him a few weeks ago at Prescott in a Morgen 3 Wheeler, I think with a JAP engine. Unfortunately didn't have enough time to go and photograph it. 1
Advertisement Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Hi Graham (G4FUJ), Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted August 24, 2024 Share #22462 Posted August 24, 2024 Graham, I suspect it is looking a whole lot better than when I had it, where a lot of the dark red paint (Dulux Gloss?) was coming off and the paint stripper I had applied to the rear half, then started to lift all the layers of canvas and epoxy. When Phil Chapman reacquired it in 1970, there was a lot of head shaking over the dreadful state of the body work, which he thought non-salvageable but as he still had the moulds, a new body might be the way to go. Delighted that it is still in use, as is the Healey 3000 I used to have (YMO300). The one that seems to have totally disappeared is the space framed Morgan 4/4 with a chassis by Brian Waite (ex AC and Aston Martin chassis designer) with the Martin F2 engine, which I sold in 1971 or 72. IkarusJohn Posted August 28, 2024 Share #22471 Posted August 28, 2024 Don’t know the name of it without googling, but I recognise it as one of those really ugly American cars made to look like somethiing from the 1930s - underneath, it’s probably some ubiquitous GM chasis and engine. adan Posted August 28, 2024 Share #22472 Posted August 28, 2024 (edited) 1980 Excalibur Phaeton IV. Edited August 28, 2024 by adan
Graham (G4FUJ) Posted August 28, 2024 Share #22473 Posted August 28, 2024 I was going to suggest Excaliber, also
a.j.z Posted August 28, 2024 Share #22474 Posted August 28, 2024 (edited) Yes, an Excalibur, Series 5 Phaeton from 1985 to be precise. It allegedly was designed after a 1928 Mercedes SSK but, well … (I don’t expect likes for the photos). Here is more information on this oddity: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excalibur_(automobile) The funny thing is that it participated in a classic car event, as being built in 1985 it qualifies as classic car (btw: in German we say „Oldtimer“ and everybody thinks that this word is also used by English speakers 😉). stuny Posted August 28, 2024 Share #22475 Posted August 28, 2024 The earlier 2-seat roadster (not the later ones) was actually rather attractive and well built. I think they used a Studebaker engine at that time.
wlaidlaw Posted August 28, 2024 Share #22476 Posted August 28, 2024 The Excalibur (I got the name wrong on my first guess, I said Excelsior) gives the Panther 6 (6 wheels) a good run for its money as being a pointless hideous object. I think most of the British registered ones have now been painted white and are used for weddings in Newcastle. Wilson 1

stuny Posted August 29, 2024 Share #22478 Posted August 29, 2024 A quick look made me think of an M-B SLK, but then I noticed the roof does not fold.
wlaidlaw Posted August 29, 2024 Share #22479 Posted August 29, 2024 It has a French look to it, so my guess would be a Matra 530 Coupé? Wilson
adan Posted August 29, 2024 Share #22480 Posted August 29, 2024 Not Matra 530 nor Mercedes SLK - but I see why those were suggestions. 😁
