pippy Posted May 11, 2024 Share #21705 Posted May 11, 2024 (edited) It looked like it would be a small thing - possibly micro - so I was thinking in Goggomobil territory but if it's Italian then how about an Autobianchi Bianchina? NigelG Posted May 12, 2024 Share #21706 Posted May 12, 2024 Autobianchi Bianchina is correct! Want to guess which one (I think the bumpers are unique to one model AFAIK (though my Autobianchi knowledge is not perfect to say the least!))

NigelG Posted May 12, 2024 Share #21708 Posted May 12, 2024 Yes - it’s the Bianchina Cabriolet - “The smallest production convertible” at launch I think. Points go to Pippy IMHO. Full pictures later this am.
pippy Posted May 12, 2024 Share #21709 Posted May 12, 2024 Thank-you Nigel. The bumpers of the Autibianchi (having just had a look on the www) do seem to be unique to the Cabrio although not all Cabrio's have exactly that set-up. I wonder if there was a re-design possibly to allow export for the US Market? Anyhow; on to the next. Here's a fun little runabout. The general 'umbrella-term' for the car will be far too straightforward so I would like to be given the exact model-designation. To that end I will endeavour to show 'bits' which I believe to be unique to this iteration; Welcome, dear visitor! NigelG Posted May 12, 2024 Share #21710 Posted May 12, 2024 I am pleased to see you have taken my previous use of the term “runabout” to heart 😉

NigelG Posted May 12, 2024 Share #21713 Posted May 12, 2024 Also note the Piaggio Ape van in the background. It was interesting being in Rome having moved back to Europe from NYC. No wanky Escalades/Suburbans but expensive-suit-wearing men-about-town types driving round in 2-seat Smart cars and Fiat 500s. Lots of perpendicular parking and "touch"parking. I'm not sure I saw a car without some sort of scrape. The only large cars on the road were very occasional 7-series with car service drivers for 5* hotels (ours didn't even offer that..our "limo" was a C-class Merc)
wlaidlaw Posted May 12, 2024 Share #21714 Posted May 12, 2024 I can see Noddy and Big Ears thinking that might be a suitable upgrade from their previous "Gamine". I have a recollection of the Autobianchi Cabrio featuring in an Italian film possibly starring either Gina Lollobrigida or Sofia Loren. Graham (G4FUJ) Posted May 12, 2024 Share #21717 Posted May 12, 2024 Wasn't there also one in the first Pink Panther film - right towards the end when several characters were trying to find a way out of a village?
