Advertisement Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 Hi Graham (G4FUJ), Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ramarren Posted January 29, 2024 Share #21262 Posted January 29, 2024 Thank you both for the compliment. I was fortunate to have owned 'my' Lamborghini quite early in life ... I bought a 1964 Lamborghini 350GT (serial number 0102) in 1975. It was in fair condition, needed a good bit more work than a college student could afford at the time, but regardless was a delight to tool about in. And I sold it for a good profit and moved on from there... into mostly Alfa Romeo typ 105 Spiders for the next 40 years mixed in with other fun things. I'm much happier owning/driving the '67 Lancia Fulvia Coupé now than I was with the Lamborghini ... it's a more useful car and, while not as outré or exotic, is still quite unusual to see on the road these days. Despite its diminutive 1.3L engine, it has no problem keeping up with modern traffic, handles great, and (now that I've replaced a lot of door insulation and weather seals, etc) is quiet enough for long trips without ear plugs. I might someday fit a stereo system into it... Eh, maybe not: The engine has a lovely sound. G
wlaidlaw Posted January 29, 2024 Share #21263 Posted January 29, 2024 (edited) I had a near escape from Lamborghinitis. I was on the point of buying a 1972 Jarama and the main sticking point was the insurance cost, which was three times what a Ferrari 365 GTC/4 was. Also my local Ferrari and Lamborghini service dealer (Mick Pullen at Carrera Sport in Haywards Heath) advised me to avoid the Jarama. I therefore went for the Ferrari and 9 years later, sold it for double what I had paid for it. It was a lovely car, once I got the ignition sorted and replaced the 4 sets of points (2 x 6 cylinder twin point distributors), all of which had to be synchronised, with a 12 cylinder distributor and an IR optical pick up. It was a very easy car to drive. A 17 year old could be taught to 4 wheel drift it in less than an hour. The only downside was brake fade. If one had been doing some fast circuit laps, it was essential to do at least 2 cool down laps with minimal braking otherwise the heat soak from the discs could boil the brake fluid in the calipers after you stopped, resulting in a very rude shock when moving around the paddock (pedal straight to the floor). stuny Posted January 29, 2024 Share #21264 Posted January 29, 2024 Was it the 365 GTC/4?

Yes Stuart, in metallic bronze which my children insisted on calling it Dad's poo brown Ferrari. Matters improved when I showed them a photo of Steve McQueen's even browner 250GT SWB. It was cream leather inside. The friend who bought it from me painted it in a lovely Lancia dark blue but then ruined it by re-trimming the whole interior in white leather with blue beading- yerchhh! Very Miami Vice. Wilson

I'd have liked a Jarama. I drove one back in the day and it was a very nice car to drive, similar to my uncle's Espada but not so large. Of course, I couldn't afford it ... and they're rare enough that a reasonably priced example now is hopeless to find. I'm happy with my Fulvia. wlaidlaw Posted January 31, 2024 Share #21270 Posted January 31, 2024 Stuart, I will leave this to others, as I know this museum and its cars quite well. Wilson
stuny Posted January 31, 2024 Share #21271 Posted January 31, 2024 I recalled you knew this museum. Unfortunately the day we were there they had one of their buildings cleared of the collection so they could host a current Alfa new model event. Otherwise, quite a nice museum. I don't know the manufacturer nor the model but, judging by the paint-scheme, at a guess I'd say it was probably used as a delivery vehicle for the Harrods department store..... I wasn't being 100% serious, Indeepthought, but I know that Harrods have used different hues over the years; sometimes darker, sometimes brighter. The usual colour, though (from what I've seen in my 37 years of living here 😸) is more like these.
