Ivan Goriup Posted May 5, 2023 Share #19650  Posted May 5, 2023 What a ridiculous predicament. I remembered seeing something very much like this car and searched my archives and came up with this photo of what appears to be the identical car, even the same color, at a vintage race weekend my old club put on in 2015 or so at what was then known as Sears Point raceway in California and must have thought it was worthy of preserving for posterity........but then failed to follow up & inquire what the Hell the damned thing was - haven't the faintest idea. Sorry for the interruption - noticed there are no badges nor any identification on 'my' specimen. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted May 5, 2023 Share #19654  Posted May 5, 2023 Thank you. I saw a few of them when new and found them a mix of appealing and funny. Fiberglass body, as I recall.
Graham (G4FUJ) Posted May 5, 2023 Share #19655  Posted May 5, 2023 Have seen a number used in classic rallying over here. I did think about the Sonnet with the second photo, but thought Saab had been discounted Don't have anything to post anyway, so probably good I didn't take a stab at it!

I think I must shoulder the blame for any confusion through my original post where I discounted SAAB with this slightly embarassing 'Brain-Fart'' moment; "I was thinking 'Unusual' SAAB but, as the quiz-car seems to be front-engined..."............ In my head I was going through a number of low-volume fibreglass sporty types most of which - but NOT, obviously, the SAAB - were either rear- or mid-engined. 'Must Pay More Attention' as, invariably, was noted in my end-of-term school reports... There were at least four which used to appear at various festivals I attended throughout the '90s but oddly enough, IIRC, none was one of the 'bulge-bonnet' V4-engined cars. Two were the two-stroke Mk. II and at least two were the Mk. III low-bonnet restyle cars. I thought both versions were rather nice! Philip.
stuny Posted May 6, 2023 Share #19659  Posted May 6, 2023 First hints: Like Dunk's last car (Saab Sonett V4) the current mystery car has a fiberglass body and is underpowered. The Saab had 65 hp, vs. Mystery car's 90, but the Saab was much lighter so its performance was less leisurely. Mystery car pre-dates the Saab.
