I really dislike diamond stitched leather for example in modern Bentleys and Rolls Royces. I always think it looks like a pretentious estate agent's anorak. :P

Here is your next car. Should take the cognoscenti not more than a few seconds but I want the exact model and the approximate year. For extra brownie points, how many (few) were made.

After further consideration I go for a 356 2000 GS Carrera 2 from 1962 or 1963. 34 convertibles have been built.

Correct Andreas  Carrera 2 Cabriolet car, with the 2 litre Fuhrmann 4 cam 546 engine. Some say that only 34 Cabriolets were built but when we were speaking to Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, he thought it might be as many as 67, as quite a few were built from spares up to as late as 1966-67 to special order, due to the lack of a 911 cabriolet and regular Cab B cars were upgraded to Carrera 2 spec.

This was an odd car with much of the restoration apparently beautifully done but other silly minor careless mistakes, like mismatched screws, some Philips and some slot head, holding on the door cards and inner panelling, which were also mis-aligned. When I drove it, the steering wheel was 20º off straight, which immediately makes you wonder what else has been done wrong or sloppily. They were also asking over the going rate, especially as EU tax had not been paid on a US import.

In the end we have put a 2.25L OHC 4 cylinder Emory engine in a non-Carrera Cab B 356 (4 cylinders from a 911 3.4 L engine) which gives us the same performance as the Carrera 2, without the horrendous unreliability and servicing requirements of the 546 engine. When we used to race a 904GTS, we always took a spare 546 engine with us and often needed it. The rebuild cost of a 546 race engine is around €40-50,000 nowadays. The 904/6 (originally a factory 904/8) that replaced the 904GTS, was far more reliable with its titanium 910T 2L flat 6 engine.

Your turn.

You will be surprised ...

The basis is street legal (I do not know, if this specific example was). Fibre: I do not think so. The best approach is to concentrate on the basis first and for this purpose more look at the right part of the picture (I admit that I took the most confusing crop possible, but did not dare to show more; I will do so in the evening if we do not get closer by then).

It is a serious experimental car. The color is misleading.

I wonder if I could have seen a similar version without the scoops....?

Yes, maybe at a motor show about 10 years ago

This one was displayed in a museum

Looks like it's based on the 612 or the Superfast, and the matte finish is an unfortunate (in my opinion) minor fad.  If could also be based on the California/Portofino, but I suspect if somebody wanted a one-off they'd base it on a mightier car than one of the V8 models.  .Wait 'til the owner tries to remove a handprint.  I guess if you waive enough money you can get an ugly Ferrari.

It's also interesting to see the panel gap on the left leading edge of the hood/bonnet.
