John Z. Goriup Posted January 14, 2018 Share #10643 Posted January 14, 2018 (edited) No, not a Delahaye, nor is it French, and Yes, the car is entirely European. This is actually a limited production version of a regularly offered model of one European countrie's manufacturer, bodied by a coachbuilder of another 'affiliated' country - applying a little of the geo-political alignements in place immediately preceding WW II would probably go a long way to help identify this car. ..................another clue JZG Welcome, dear visitor! John Z. Goriup Posted January 16, 2018 Share #10644 Posted January 16, 2018 Doesn't look like like we're getting anywhere with this, so I'll just post the car and solve the riddle. It's a 1939 BMW 328 Mille Miglia Coupe - Chassis and drivetrain by BMW, body and interior by Carrozzeria Touring, Miano, Italy. In '38 To celebrate their 'axis' relationship, Germany and Italy agreed to stage a Berlin - Rome race / rally, but Adolph's rushing the Nazi expansion program in Sept. of '39 upset the scheduling and put paid to plans for the race, although this car did win the Mille Miglia a year later in '40.. The car currently resides in the BMW museum. you know, the "Four-Cylinder" building in Munich. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! maximilianm3 Posted January 19, 2018 Share #10651 Posted January 19, 2018 my first guess was wrong so i'll update it to some Zagato creation
stuny Posted January 19, 2018 Share #10652 Posted January 19, 2018 It certainly has the slipperiness of a Zagato, though perhaps Abarth instead. I'm looking forward to seeing what this little coupe looks like.
John Z. Goriup Posted January 19, 2018 Share #10653 Posted January 19, 2018 Not a Ferrari, but the Agnellis played a prominent role in the maeques history. Yes, it is a Zagato creation, and No, Abarth was not involved. As further clues, a total of 114 of this model were eventually produced with bodies by various coach builders ( mostly Italian ) - these 114 units all share one unique feature only found in this model series. Good luck, JZG

stuny Posted January 19, 2018 Share #10655 Posted January 19, 2018 It seems to be front engine, which leaves out most of the FIAT Zagato based cars - At least the small displacement ones, but perhaps one of the Fiat 8Vs of the early '50s, so I think Gunther has it. John Z. Goriup Posted January 19, 2018 Share #10656 Posted January 19, 2018 A FIAT 8V Zagato Berlinetta it is indeed, except this one is a '55 vintage specimen. The one characteristic they all shared is that to this day this series of FIATs - the Otto-Vu cars , all 114 of them, remain the only V-8 engined cars Fiat ever produced.
