wlaidlaw Posted July 10, 2016 Share #8863  Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) Correct Stuart. This is the new alloy chassis Plus 8 with the 4.8L BMW V8 engine. I am looking forward to having a go of this over the next few weeks. It should be like a modern day AC Cobra. I never understood why it took them 15 years after bringing out the Aero 8 (Clarence the cross eyed car) to get round to replacing the pre-historic channel girder steel flexy chassis in the Plus 8. Hundreds of sales thrown away IMHO.  Wilson   Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! wlaidlaw Posted July 13, 2016 Share #8865  Posted July 13, 2016 I suspect this may be the car unkindly known as the "Molsheim Morris Cowley" or more correctly the 4 cylinder  version of the Bugatti Type 40, with the 1496cc unblown Type 37 engine.  Wilson

dkCambridgeshire Posted July 15, 2016 Share #8874  Posted July 15, 2016 Alpina Z8 - 4.8L V8 with automatic transmission.  dunk
Wonzo Posted July 15, 2016 Share #8875 Â Posted July 15, 2016 BMW remains to be the manufacturer, Alpina remains to be a car tuner for BMW cars, so it`s a BMW Z8 Alpina or BMW Alpina Z8
wlaidlaw Posted July 15, 2016 Share #8876  Posted July 15, 2016 BMW remains to be the manufacturer, Alpina remains to be a car tuner for BMW cars, so it`s a BMW Z8 Alpina or BMW Alpina Z8  Incorrect. Alpina is a recognised car manufacturer in Germany and most other countries in Europe. I have had a couple of UK registered Alpinas (1989 B9 Coupé - The very rare 3.4L twin cam autobox and 1997 B10-V8S). The make was shown on my official UK documentation as Alpina not BMW. If you went to their works in Buchloe, you would see that most bodies of their cars arrive in a very part built state from BMW, often sitting on a jig and a lot of different parts are then put on and in, which transforms the car from the original BMW version. They even have their own herd of bulls in Sweden to provide the leather for the upholstery. I think it is only their recent two wheel drive 3 series cars which are built on the M sport BMW production line.  The standard Z8 was a pretty second rate and underdeveloped car. The owner of this Alpina had an original Z8 some years before and hated it as much as he likes the Alpina version. Somebody stole the Alpina bonnet badge from this car, so pro-tem it has a BMW one. I wish I had hung onto my B9, which with its 5 speed ZF auto/semi auto box and the full beans M6 3.4L DOHC engine, was one of only two made to this spec. In between the two Alpinas I had a BMW E34 3.8L Nurburgring spec M5, which was a nasty, dangerous, brutish car in comparison to the two Alpinas.  You will have to fight amongst yourselves who gets the credit for this answer.  Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! Wonzo Posted July 15, 2016 Share #8877 Â Posted July 15, 2016 If you go on the Alpina Website, you'll see, that every car offered by the company is named BMW Alpina .... But also I must confess, that Alpina is regarded as a manufacturer, I was wrong in this point ! The question, if the cars are "more developed", is up to an individual point of view ...
