I'm afraid that it's not and maybe the next clue makes that clear

Wilson,

Right car wrong Italian race

Gerd

Gerd,

I think you would need a magnifying glass to find the difference between the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio. I think the main difference is in the way the back axle is located and the spec of the original Bristol engine (Mille Miglia BS1A Mk2 or 3: Targa Florio BS4 Mk2). I bear the scars of a Frazer Nash Le Mans Mk2 (BS4A Mk2 engine making 172 BHP), when I was driving one a few years ago in a rally wearing shorts in the south of France. I slipped on the slightly oily aluminium floor when getting out and my right leg pressed against the red hot exhaust manifold which runs along the side (no doors). It took about 9 months to heal.

Mille Miglia indeed but seen the fact that it is apparently impossible to see that from the outside I let it up to Dunk and Wilson to decide who's going to give us the next car.

Dunk,

I have nothing new to post so down to you.......

Wilson

Wilson you identified the car so I cannot claim to have the first correct answer … and I'm under the weather with a respiratory bug (a day in bed) so have nothing immediately ready.

I might be able to post something this evening … but maybe one of the regular contributors has some pics ready now?

Citroen DS? Chaperon or something like that.

Maximilian,

Close enough. Its full title is a Henri Chapron Citroen DS21 (although it now has a DS23 engine) Le Caddy. It supposedly was called this because of its Cadillac-like tail fins but that cannot be correct, as it was still called this when it had the original sloping Citroen rear wings. We think this may be the Paris Salon car from 1966. Around 15 of these cars were made. It is really just a two seater, as the rear is strictly for legless midgets.

Your turn

I am in the middle of packing up to go back to the UK for the winter, so can I leave it to Manoleica. I am probably in a tiny minority in preferring driving the V12 E-Type to the 6 cylinder ones. I would even prefer a really good V12 (converted to fuel injection) to my brother's Eagle 6 cylinder E-type. That is a nice one you show with the proper wire wheels, rather than the ugly steel ones.

I recall asking Jaguar on one of my visits to Brown's Lane in the early 1970's, why they did not offer the attractive Dunlop magnesium alloy wheels or Hallibrand Cobra type wheels as an option to the steel wheels, for those who could not be bothered with cleaning the spoked wheels or wanted more rigid wheels. The engineers I spoke to agreed with me but said they could not get the sales people to see sense. Admittedly neither the Dunlop nor the Hallibrand wheels are cheap.
