Rona!d Posted July 9, 2014 Share #6543 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) My first guess was a Sunbeam Harrington/Hartwell (Alpine), but yours has a different "hip swing". Edited July 9, 2014 by Rona|d

Toshack10 Posted July 10, 2014 Share #6545 Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) looks like a grubby Pagoda next to it. It looks like it has a cage in it so assume it's rallying. They look like Shelby stripes too Edited July 10, 2014 by Toshack10
wlaidlaw Posted July 10, 2014 Share #6546 Posted July 10, 2014 looks like a grubby Pagoda next to it. It looks like it has a cage in it so assume it's rallying. They look like Shelby stripes too The photo was taken at Balmoral Castle on the 2014 Scottish Malts Rally. This was after over 1,000 miles often on poor roads so unless people were very keen (and some were), the cars were very dusty. The car was very well driven by two young ladies. The car next door is indeed a pagoda. The stripes might be Shelby but the car isn’t. The hardtop on a Shelby is much more rounded. To give people a hint, this car came in three body styles. Coupé, Convertible and Targa Top (four if you count a removable hardtop). It was the Coupe that was always used as the works rally car. It was a competitor to the Sunbeam Alpine/Tiger, Healey 3000, Fiat 124 Abarth etc. Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted July 10, 2014 Share #6550 Posted July 10, 2014 Ronald yes I am fairly sure a solid axle 4 not a 4A from the vertical angle of the back wheels in the photo below. At a later point we were following it in my RSR which has close to three times as much power and were having to motor along to keep up with these girls. They got one of the top prizes for regularity. Rona!d Posted July 10, 2014 Share #6551 Posted July 10, 2014 Wilson, I shouldn´t follow this riddle thread on iToys while feeding the babies and give stupid answers After I typed in TR5 I wanted to correct myself with "TR4" but had to play nanny. Seems you had a good time in Scotland, would love to go back there soon.

a.j.z Posted July 11, 2014 Share #6555 Posted July 11, 2014 BTW Steyr Puch Haflinger. Wilson I drove the big brother, the Pinzgauer, when I had to serve in the Austrian army.
wlaidlaw Posted July 11, 2014 Share #6556 Posted July 11, 2014 They used to have a Pinzgauer at the Aviemore Ski Centre in Scotland. I was always amused by the steering wheel and hand throttle at the very back for dodging bullets. It was a standard joke to alarm people by driving it around with apparently nobody at the wheel. Rona!d Posted July 11, 2014 Share #6558 Posted July 11, 2014 Wilson, your turn. Interesting they used it in Scotland. Not living in the mountains anymore, otherwise it would be fun to have one. Andreas, also remember the big brother with 6-wheels. They always amazed me in the Alpes. Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted July 11, 2014 Share #6559 Posted July 11, 2014 What new firmware for the Haflinger?? I assume not yet another new FW for the M240. I am still running the XXXX.15 Beta as I was told it was identical to the final one. Now for your next one. I might well choose one of these for my next classic rally car. It is the one in the foreground BTW. For the Swiss Bentley 3½ in the background, the owner appeared in matching, beautifully tailored, tweed plus-fours suit every day. My father would have loved him! wlaidlaw Posted July 11, 2014 Share #6560 Posted July 11, 2014 For anyone looking for a nice long nose 911, Early 911 at Upper Hartfield in Sussex have a slate grey (Steve McQueen style) 1972 2.4 T. It is LHD and had a back to bare metal rebuild. Early 911 do nice work and I wish I had had them do the major work on my RSR rather than Tuthills, a lot of whose mechanical and electrical work I have had to redo and replace many very used components they put in, charging me for new. Apart from anything else, Early 911 are just up the road from my UK house and not north of Oxford, like Tuthills. I don’t know the price of the 2.4T but it will be representative not ridiculous. Usual disclaimers! Wilson
