Near enough. Here is the whole car, a 1914 12/16 Tourer designed by Louis Coatalen. Post WW1 this was improved to become the 14/40, which was the chassis on the saloon I used to drive. I also show a picture of the sort of car, my poor uncle thought he was buying (a three litre supercharged twin cam Sunbeam) but sadly wasn’t.

Citroen DS19/21/23 Safari Ambulance.

The Sunbeam was in the UK National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. I had to go down there to Vintage Tyres as that is now my nearest dealer for Michelin Racing Tyres to get TB15’s for the back of my 1977 911 RSR. The Museum was a little disappointing as about 40% of it was shut off for renovation, with compressors roaring and a lot of banging and crashing as they rush to get it ready for Easter.

The company that made this car, changed its name twice and became very well known for its racing cars.

Ronald,

Correct. I could not say if it was a 1931 or 32, as I guess there is no difference. For the benefit of others, it was made by the Swallow Sidecar Company using an Austin 7 chassis. Given the huge imposing radiator for a 750cc engine putting out just over 10 BHP, I would guess that overheating was not an issue. :) I love the ships’ boiler room air intakes just in front of the windscreen.

The Swallow Sidecar Company became the SS Motor Company in 1932, which post WW2, due to the unpleasant connotations attached to their name, renamed themselves after the company mascot, a Jaguar. They of course became famous for winning Le Mans 5 times in the 1950’s with XK120C, C type and D Type and then twice again in 1988 and 1990 with their V12 XKR’s.

For those who can receive the BBC, there is a rather odd adaptation of P.G.Wodehouse’s Blandings but tonight’s episode features a lovely Alfa Romeo RL. I briefly had a 1924 RL Sport in the late 1960’s, when they were regarded as not very desirable and could be had for less than a thousand pounds. Another one of those cars I wish I had kept!

Well, understandably Ronald appears to have more important things to attend to ...

So I step in and if Ronald posts something before this one is solved we continue with his post
