Stu, the 700 (and Quandt families money injection) saved BMW their a**. It was the predecessor of the "02" / "new class" which was followed by 3-series which made BMW so big again. Although not many people know, this was a BMW milestone.

It was a famous amateur racing car as well.

I used to work with the car company founder's great great grandson ... who has exactly the same name as his forebear.

1909/10 9HP Renault. These were often used as taxis in both London and Paris.

You are correct Wilson ... but what is the actual model type? ...

It is a model AG I think. I recognised it immediately, having spent an entire morning last year staring at the backside of one of these as it ground up the tiniest incline at a snails' pace. I was on a pre-WW1 rally near Orange in France in our 40/50 RR Ghost Continental (since exchanged for a much lighter London to Edinburgh), where in their "wisdom" the organisers had arranged the cars alphabetically, instead of sending the slower cars off earlier and suitable intervals later, progressively bigger engined or faster cars, so that we all finish at about the same time. The Ghost will cruise up quite steep hills in top gear at 40 to 50 MPH with its near 8 litres and does not like creeping up at 10 MPH, when the steering is very heavy. There was another participant with a 90HP Mors racer, who explained in very colourful language to the organisers at lunchtime, the error of their ways, as both he and his car were fuming. We had a police motor cycle escort, so overtaking was very frowned on, with lots of finger waving. After lunch, they let us faster cars off first.

Wilson it is an AG ... and thank you for the interesting anecdote. I imagine this particular taxi has covered a lot of miles.
