wlaidlaw Posted August 1, 2013 Share #5201 Posted August 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) In that case, a 650? Yes to be exact a 650 TR II. Actually I believe this one was a 780cc, which was making nearly 50 HP! I was talking to the driver of the GT40 which was racing alongside this in the Old Timer Marathon round the Nordschleife. He said it was a bit scary as he had close to 160 kph speed differential when he was overtaking it on the long straight just before Tiergarten. We were overtaking it with a 130+ kph differential in the 904/6. Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted August 1, 2013 Share #5203 Posted August 1, 2013 Here is the whole picture. It was on a disc I had disconnected in the expectation of my new TimeCapsule arriving today (the wireless has packed on the old one). However, as usual, the UPS driver could not find his own backside using both hands. They said the house number in the road was wrong (it wasn't) and as there are only two houses on the road and mine shows my name prominently on the mail box, it is patent that the driver did not even attempt a delivery. The 650 TR is equal top of the list of race cars I would not like to have an accident in, along with a Porsche 910, where the frontal crash structure is your feet. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted August 1, 2013 Share #5204 Posted August 1, 2013 I think Andreas should have it. I never would have gotten it without his pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks, I had some advantage regarding the Puch (there are not too many Austrian cars from that time) Stuart, as I am travelling, please go ahead! stuny Posted August 2, 2013 Share #5208 Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) That was impressively fast. Back to you. This was on the street along with a few other cars of the same general vintage. they were still in town from our Independance Day parade. We passed them on our way to the USS Intrepid Aerospace Museum, where we had a reservation for a tour of the space shuttle Enterprise. The name "4-4-2" refers to it using a four barrel carb, having a four speed manual transmission and dual exhaust. Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted August 2, 2013 Share #5209 Posted August 2, 2013 Here is your next one. I drove one of these some years ago for someone who wanted to know if he should buy it (not this actual one). I said it was one of the scariest cars I had ever driven, including a BRM P75 H16 F1 car and an 8 litre Donovan Chrysler Hemi Lola T70 Mk2. I am pleased to say I managed to persuade him to buy a lovely Chevron B16/FVC instead, one of the nicest driving race cars ever made, with not a single bad bone in its body. wlaidlaw Posted August 5, 2013 Share #5215 Posted August 5, 2013 Wilson, Would both the engine design and the car be of British origin? Or does the British car have a non-UK designed/manufactured engine? dunk The car was not designed. It was conceived after a large meal consisting mainly of gorgonzola and is a result of nightmares. The engine (the only good bit) is not British. Wilson
