Advertisement Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Hi stuny, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted July 16, 2013 Share #5122 Posted July 16, 2013 At a charity do some years ago, I was sitting close to John Nettles. Both he and I were not dancing as his leg was in plaster and I, yet again, was in a pump up boot. We got to talking about filming in Jersey in the 1980's. He said that a lot more of the Bergerac series was shot in the BBC studios and around the home counties than you might think. On Jersey he said, it was the usual on location stuff of 95% waiting around for the techies to set up and the director to be happy and then 5% frantic action before the light changed or it started to rain. Then he said: "....and as for that bloody car (a Triumph Roadster)! It would never start when you needed it to but that was just as well, as it had about half a turn of slack on the steering and no brakes to speak of." Apparently if you look at the series you will often see it coming downhill but seldom uphill, as it had been pushed from round a corner further up and was not actually running at the time. The noise was dubbed on later. I believe it has recently been fully restored for a new series of Bergerac being made by the Beeb but without John Nettles. wlaidlaw Posted July 16, 2013 Share #5123 Posted July 16, 2013 Here is your next one - very very easy. Sorry about the quality, it was taken in rather a dark garage and I did not have a flash. wlaidlaw Posted July 16, 2013 Share #5127 Posted July 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm thinking a Bug. Perhpas the "35." Older. There are a number of clues to spot in the photo. Wilson
stuny Posted July 17, 2013 Share #5128 Posted July 17, 2013 So it is a Bug?
stuny Posted July 17, 2013 Share #5129 Posted July 17, 2013 And, if a Bugatti, perhaps a Type 13 or Type 18?
wlaidlaw Posted July 17, 2013 Share #5130 Posted July 17, 2013 So it is a Bug? No, not a Bug - wrong country. Sporting but not a sports car. Uses 33" x 4 1/2" straight side tyres. Wilson
wlaidlaw Posted July 17, 2013 Share #5131 Posted July 17, 2013 And, if a Bugatti, perhaps a Type 13 or Type 18? Correct era. Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted July 19, 2013 Share #5135 Posted July 19, 2013 Well, how about English? And if so, perhaps from AC or Bentley? English but made while W.O. was still making steam engines for the Great North Railway. Look at that number plate! Wilson
stuny Posted July 19, 2013 Share #5136 Posted July 19, 2013 The number plate suggests London and Wimbledon, but I'm unaware of vintage cars made there. I'm stuck again.

wlaidlaw Posted July 19, 2013 Share #5138 Posted July 19, 2013 The number plate suggests the model of the car not the make. I can't widen the crop or you would get it instantly. Very recognisable car. Wilson
stuny Posted July 19, 2013 Share #5139 Posted July 19, 2013 That could suggest a Le Mans connection, but I'm still lost.
wlaidlaw Posted July 19, 2013 Share #5140 Posted July 19, 2013 That could suggest a Le Mans connection, but I'm still lost. You were nearly there on your previous post - forget Wimbledon and think of somewhere else. Remember model of the car not its make. Wilson
